Nothing wrong with Baytril, its the fanciers that misuse it that is the problem.

Give Baytril a miss mate,it has it's uses but looking at your problem not in this case.Withold all feed for at least 36 hrs.Put them on Belgamco available at Taylors choice, once the youngens are bouncing off the floor give them small amounts of depurative several times a day.DO NOT over fill them.Once they start to get their appitite start to build them up and back onto their usual feed.

under £20 and will save you a few head aches with youngbirds.

floydd best bet in my opinion is 24 hours without food, and either electrolites or BILCO's powder Xerex(the best yb sickness treatment on the market for quick results and cheapness) and i would have either in the drinker for the next 72 hours, after 24 hours gradually increase them back onto food, or the other alternative if you want to go down the antibiotic route is giving them cosumix which would also clear any respiratory infections all the best

i had that a few weeks ago, yb holding corn and them droppings went to local vet, just asked would you know anything for them symptoms, he brought me out 3 sachets of sulphadimine sodium, 3days of 2 grams per litre, 2 days multivits then 3 days of 1 gram per litre, after 3rd day pigeons were coming back from deaths door, they are now in good shape, it only cost me 4 euro for the 3 sachets and still have 1 left, its an anti cocci as well and used for poultry and livestock

thats the big secret with all that stuff, they never give the ingredients, its prob some of that sulphadimine or something similar in which they are profiting by an enormous amount

I dont like to use anti-b's too often, but i would prefer to use them than other "super potions", at least you know what is going into your birds.

As i said must Anti-bs used on pigeons are ok, its the mis-use than isnt. But as i said before its horses for courses, use the appropriate medicine for the illness and dont just pee in the wind!!

It is a recommended dose for 7-14 days, however for ybs sickness id only give it for 3 days, its alot less harsher then baytril, the source im afraid i couldnt tell you as i normally get mine from a batch when my friend orders his.

Floyd keep them on it for 10 days if you can (min 7 days), but if they start to look off take them off straight away. You can add a probiotic to the water after day 5 (gemthepax, probac etc, or on the corn), to start buidling the good gut bacteria back up.

Glad your birds on the mend.

Probably a waste of time giving a probiotic when birds are on antibiotic treatment, an antibiotic doesn't distinguish between good and bad bacteria, it will kill it too. Give the birds a few clear days after your antibiotic treatment ends (to rid the antibiotic from their bodies) then give a probiotic.
