Guest 67ghirl Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 The telephone code on wing stamp is for Southend-On-Sea.Poor thing is a long way from home
DAVIDL Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 wouldnt have thought they would be allowed to destroy the bird, regardless of them being a vermin company.............they should, like anyone else who comes accross a racing pigeon bearing a recognised union ring report it so the owner can claim it back if needed. if it was my bird and they took it upon themselves to destroy it i wouldnt be too pleased, and as someone has already pointed out, shooting a racing pigeon is an offense so them destroying it also would/should be too.

Guest bakes Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 by no means you can shoot or trap raceing pigeons ive just got of blower to a mate of mine he works as pest controller his own words you can not legally shoot or trap raceing pigeons it is against the law plus carrys heavy fines its someone property like dog cat it has been bred by someone and someone owns the bird lost or not lost you cant legally get a gun and shoot someones cat or dog because its been sitting around for a while its the same rule for raceing pigeons there not a legal species you can shoot or trap.
Guest bakes Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 whats the name of the company that has done the pest control as i send them a email and before they say it was a feral it was wearing life ring and wing stamped lost or not thats someones bird and as they new it was someons property and they didnt bother hence saying got till end of day to me they sound like ametuers are they a registerd pest control service •It is an offence under the Criminal Damage Act 1971 to intentionally kill a racing pigeon.

Well done mate, I hate these retards that take sick enjoyment out of seeing helpless creatures suffer. If yer going to kull something, kill quick with least amount of suffering.

Surely it is an offence to kill any pigeon with a life ring on be it racer, tumbler, roller etc. It is good you have the ring no. as a court case would find this usefull.
PIGEON_MAN Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 Just off the phone speaking to the owner,it was lost last weekend from Thurso flying with the Essex and Kent combines, terrible race with only a few birds home, they sent 11 this one is the only one they have heard about, someone else rang them and they understand that the bird as been released.
rasbull Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 why were the birds let go in Thurso on that day if they were only getting to Montrose? I know a few feds had a shocker including the Welsh Grand National where I believe only 4 birds made it home! Shocking decision to liberate them! Hope the owners get this one back!

It should have been reported and couriered home. This firm should be reported to the proper authority and action taken. Not only do your racers have to put up with Percy, they have to endure this kind of treatment as well. Fair enough if it had been rested, fed and watered. Shamefull.
david Posted July 16, 2010 Author Report Posted July 16, 2010 Hi all I will try and explain what has happened . A company has been called in to exterminate all feral pigeons that live or find there way into massive grain hangers in montrose docks area. My friend who is a foreman on these docks called to tell me he saw a very nice looking pigeon in one of the vermin cages and thought i may like to know.He advised me it was double rung and and the ring number was a Belgium reg .He told me the birds that are caught are then taken to a special van where they are gassed. This would happen at about 5pm and could i get down to montrose to collect it.I live an hour and a half away and just could not get their yesterday. However to cut a long story short !! He managed to get access to the Belgium rung pigeon and took it as far south as Edinburgh where he liberated it north of the forth road Bridge. This is where he lives .I called the owner who was pleased to know that the bird had had a second chance .(i told him his bird had been saved from death)..The way i saw it was that the bird had a better chance this way than leaving it to the vermin contractors ..Very sad i know but i did all i could under the circumstances. If it had not been the middle of the day i may of found a local fancier to help .I tried posting on the Banter site but did not get much info from there. I think it's sad people in general do perceive the racing pigeon in just the same way as the streeter ..VERMIN!! I dont believe that will ever change either.Anyway boy's that's the story.I hope this pigeon that scored well from Arbroath the week before for it's owner makes it home. DAVID
