Guest IB Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 I think any Fed is at a big disadvantage holding its own 300 mile race on the same day as an Inland National. A Fed cannot hope to pay out anything like the levels of pool & prize monies available in a National race. Duplication Fed / National also greatly increases the cost to the fancier, paying double the birdage costs to pay National & Fed Prize money, with again far less Prize money available in the Fed. For the fancier money could be the deciding factor: a fixed outlay and which race gives the chance for the highest financial return available for that outlay. That must be the National race, and there's a lot of prestige comes with it. Members of SNFC voted that Fed members convoyed by SNFC pay the same birdage as they do. On hindsight, this may be wrong, as a Fed member who is not a member of SNFC is paying same birdage as SNFC without having access to SNFC prize money. What we perhaps should have been doing was making sure that all empty space on the transporter was sold to Federations for a price that covered transportation costs.

Not quite true as for example the federation members who are not members of the National are charged 75 pence to go to Bovingdon with their fed and yet National members have to pay £2.00. Yes the SNFC members are flying for prizemoney but this with an entry of 5000 birds equates to £0.30, birdage in my opinion is set at a very fair price
WHITTY Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 fife fed members who only fly with the fed only pay 27p we who fly with duplication pay £2 to nat and £1 to the fed whitch i think is wrong they are still being convoyed to the race point
Guest IB Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 North West Fed was convoyed by SNFC for 2 years and the 'duplication' birdage charge was the same as the National birdage charge, which I think was £1.50 per bird at that time, or £3 per bird if racing in both Fed Open & SNFC. Up till then, we had our own Open at £1 a bird, and two years ago our Fed voted to pull out of SNFC joint convoying arrangement as the costs were too high, and this affected birdage for the Fed race. We went to Maidstone again this year at £1 a bird, joint convoying with Central Fed. Birdage wasn't all that great. Scottish Central Combine is also convoyed by SNFC, went to Ypres for the first time this year, with the same 'duplication' birdage charge as the National, £3 per bird or £6 per bird if racing in both SCC & SNFC. So in my opinion, duplication is very expensive for the fancier. It hits the pocket hard at this time of year when birdage costs are higher to reflect the transporter travelling longer distances. I have no complaint with paying the going rate on the transporter, or with joint convoying. It is a sensible way to keep costs down. Yet the current duplication system appears to actually increase direct costs for the fancier. It doubled the £3 cost of sending my bird to Ypres to £6, despite there being only only one transport cost. If it is a duplication race, why not have one birdage payment and Fed pooling in a 'Federation' section on the National race sheet?

Novice Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 why not add it again I simply said we were asking Club/Federation racers to perform in a National scenario. It was my opinion that they did not have the necessary logic to deal with being released with birds which were from all over the country.
