Guest Blue Pied Cock Posted July 1, 2010 Report Posted July 1, 2010 My question is after finishing the racing season one of my widowhood sections which has six boxes now has the top two boxes empty due to losing the bird's during the season, these two boxes have been shut since the birds were lost, my question is do i let the remaining birds in this section take a new top box and close their current box or would it be better to leave them in the box they have raced to all season long? whatever happens two of this years young cock's will be put in this section at he end of the young bird programme so would it just be easier to let them have the top boxes? Any advice on this would be much appreciated. Many Thanks.
PIGEON_MAN Posted July 1, 2010 Report Posted July 1, 2010 Personally I would let 2 new cocks have these boxes, have found in the past if you let a cock allready in the section have a new box he also tends to fight off anything that gets in his old box.

sapper756 Posted July 1, 2010 Report Posted July 1, 2010 Have to agree with both previous posts, if you allow one of the original cocks to take up a new box, the chances are he will also keep ownership of his original box, which will result in fightinghttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif

JohnQuinn Posted July 1, 2010 Report Posted July 1, 2010 YOUR GETTING THE BEST ADVICE AVAILABLE, PARTICULARLY REGARDING REMOVING THE OLD CK'S UNTIL THE YOUNG CK'S SETTLE IN THE SECTION AND THEIR NEW BOX.THE CK'S GROW TO LOVE THE BOX THEY RACE TO, AND THIS IS PART OF THE MOTIVATION FOR THEM RACING, HOWEVER IT DOES NOT FOLLOW THAT IF THEY HAVE 2 BOXES THEY WILL RACE BETTER, THE EXTRA WORK ASSOCIATED WITH DEFENDING A SECOND BOX CAN, IN THEORY AT LEAST, TIRE THE CK OUT LEAVING HIM A LITTLE JADED ON RACE DAYS AND UNABLE TO PERFORM AT HIS BEST. OLDYELLOW Posted July 1, 2010 Report Posted July 1, 2010 some good advice there empty boxes i'd let this years young cocks have them and better to move old birds out before putting them in at end of yb racing and shut the old bird occupied boxes off then it gives the younger cocks more time to settle and pick a box out and grow in confidence
