JohnQuinn Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 I just got given a bag of grub I think its allround stuff its got everything in it so I just gee them a wee drop each in the morning until they get there feed at night I've just got a set of scales so I'm gonny start giving exactly a ounce once they come in and that's it see how that works because I've been doinmg all different times going out and feeding and its nae good the birds have to have a routine a think ??I once answered a question with the words, Routine Routine Routine!Routine is the single most important part of keeping ANY type of livestock, more so to those who are asked to perform for human interest, doos, horses and dogs etc.If you don't have them on a fixed routine, they simply won't perform in the race basket. On top of that you will lose control of the birds, as they won't know if they are coming or going.I would never weigh my birds food either, they can eat as much as they want when the feeding is in front of them, i believe they know better than us, the amount of intake they need, on any given day. jmo
geordie1234 Posted July 7, 2010 Author Report Posted July 7, 2010 Thanks mate I just weigh an ounce each bird and it looked harly any john do you feed yours the same time every night or day
JohnQuinn Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Let them out the same time every day (7.30am) before i go to work, fed when they get back in. When they stop eating, all of them not just the ones who dominate the feeders, i lift the feeders away and thats them 'til next morn.As the racing is only 3 weeks away now, i will start them on getting out twice a day, in the morning they will be brought in using Red Band, in the evening they will get a full feed. If they mess me about in the mornings, i'll cut the evening feed gradually until they are acting the way i want them. When the training starts on the 17th, they will be one of 3 places, in the basket in the sky or in the loft, that will be the regime until the end of the season, though i do like to put the bath out on Sunday's to sit and observe them.Try it out, it works.
geordie1234 Posted July 7, 2010 Author Report Posted July 7, 2010 how long do you leave them out for mate? JohnQuinn Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 its cool i dont drink anymore anyway but a think a know what i need to know now thanks pigeon basics has been a great help getting me up and running Cheers You'll get there Geo, just learn as you go, we have all done it. You will find in time, things that buck the trend, will suit you, everybody's pigeons are managed differently, yet there are winners from all sorts of management systems, don't knock yourself out finding out everything about them at once, because it'll be your management that the birds will adapt to, and when they realise what you want from them, they will respond to it.Have a nice relaxed time with your doos and watch them closely, you will soon see they all have different little characters and behaviour patterns. If you know anyone in the sport who would visit you and point some things out, you will learn "live" what to look for in the birds. ;)
geordie1234 Posted July 8, 2010 Author Report Posted July 8, 2010 Your right mate I've been stressing out too much trying to learn everything, Time now to sit back and relax and let the doos get on with it and enjoy them I think

geordie1234 Posted July 9, 2010 Author Report Posted July 9, 2010 Just had the ybs out for the first time since tuesday after keeping them in and sticking to a routine that suited feeding at the exact same time and measured amounts each burd The differance is unbelievable as soon as they saw me coming out the house they were all down like bullets and through the trap is was such a gd feeling having the control over them and not having them sit all over the buildings and they are all flying well I also noticed aswell after feeding that some are starting to show or trying to but they are fighting aswell is this normal
