I have 3 young birds that no matter what i do will not come in when i want them to and they are starting to keep others out with them. Where i live there are houses all around me and they are starting to house hop which i do not like or want as i am always in fear of complaints. I have tried not feeding them when they dont come in i have cut there feed right back nothing works i feel its impossble when you live in a built up area to keep them of the house roofs. Its really getting me down now and rather than wait fr complaints im thinking of jacking in before it gets that far Please if any one has any advice let me know. thanks

If you have tried everything, and I mean tried everything, and these three birds are still not responding, then remove them. From what you say, you are sick with worry that neighbours will complain. With these 3 gone, you won't have to worry any more.

So sorry to hear of this damo mate, with respect, if they were starving and HEALTHY they should respond quickly, i had 1 that sat out for 2 days, and would nt eat when it did come in, so obviously something a miss with it, its gone now. shame you have no obs to bring them down, are they eating on the fields or anything?

But if its the same birds, that are doing it constantly, then they have to go im afraid, they will never learn.

Young birds are a pain at times,

How do the others trap? like lightening? they need to know your the boss.

Stick with it mate.

if they are unwell its not there falt but a unwell bird should be spoted before you let them out. if you have to kill a bird because it wont come in means its beat you and a easy way out. ive have been racing for over 20 years and had some bad trapers and not had to kill one of them

That's the answer,My old man use to put them in a basket for three days with water only,NO FOOD.They learned the hard way, like IB, mine went in the bin yesterday, always kept brining the batch back then it was on every roof on the estate.THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED ON ANY ROOF.

If they are going to cause you trouble there's only one answer.

what i do is work on as 3 strike and your out rule if i have a bird that consently keeps staying out wont trap back in i always put corn in trough when there still exerciseing drop landing board and call them in the ones that mess about dont get fed if they constently keep doing this they end up in bin even if they cost me a good few bob to bring them in as dont wont anythink putting my birds back when they should be straight up and exerciseing and trap back in if i have a bird that is constently takeing the micheal i get it swobbed and dropping checked if it comes back all clear and its still doing it that goes in the bin end of the day there working animals keep the strongest cull the weakest as you will only drop them training raceing anyways what makes the grade earns the perch others dont entertain me it cost the same to feed crap than it does good

all the best.

I had a mare of a year last year with birds not coming in. it would take me all night to get them in. i tried everything, but ultimately it was a mixture of things causing the problem. one for what ever reason they didnt like going in the loft and refused to land on it. they were allowed to walk around the garden and were fed to much. This year we redesigned the loft. We changed the feed ( only getting super diet at the moment at an oz and a quater and flying for 1.5 plus hours) and we now use a clicker designed for training dogs. evertime we feed them we click the clicker. they now associate the clicker with food. We trap 50 pigeons within seconds, trust me when i say as other of said dont feed them at all if they dont come in and after a couple of days they will be the first in. We still do it now. any that decide they want to sit around doesnt get fed.

You have to have a strict routine otherwise if they think its exceptable to ignore you they will do it on race day. last year we had 11 sat on the loft before we clock our first. teach them when they are young and they will do it for life. youngsters who are bad trappers tend to be bad trappers as old birds.

good luck my mate.
