Pompey Mick Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 What are the members thoughts on ultrasonic cat deterrents. I am bothered by a couple of local cats, more inquisitive than dangerous, that hang around my back garden loft. I am thinking of purchasing a Catwatch from Regency Lofts. Anyone used ultrasonic deterrents ?

peterpau Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 I have two and they're great. Why two? So they can face different directions.
sapper756 Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 I HAVE A DAZER UNIT, AND I WOULD NOT BE WITHOUT IT, UNLESS I HAD AN AIR RIFLE! :o
Pompey Mick Posted March 16, 2006 Author Report Posted March 16, 2006 Are your cat repellers Catwatch, Peterpau. if not what kind are they?
peterpau Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Yea fairly sure mine are dazer too. Bought the first about six years ago, then last year found a cat coming from behind it, so I bought another at Doncaster last year. not seen a cat in the garden since.

snowy Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 whats the best make, & where do you get them from & how much?
jimmy white Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 they work ok ,,my brother in law bought one for his garden, to keep the cats out, but the kids had about a dozen guinnie pigs kept in a wendy hut, i was there when he switched it on,, well , all i can say is ive never seen guinie pigs run as fast , right into the wendy hut. i dont know what kind it was, but it had differant settings, starting at mice, rats, then bigger animals,,,,,i had it set for deer[,didnt realize] :P
T_T Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 PM, I asked the same question some time ago and was given more or less the same answers but decided to get one anyway. If you go into your search engine and type Cat Gard ( spelt like that ) then scroll down to Garden Supply Direct-Cat Gard-Catgard Deterrent, that's the one I've got. Two year guarantee and only £19:98 plus £2: 50pp.? working fine. I watched them scoot away first couple of days, don't see em' now.
mealybar Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 If you look outside of pigeon circles I'm sure you'll be able to get the same thing >much< cheaper
THE FIFER Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 i have had one for a few years it works both my nebours have cats but do not come near my garden, i got mine at a garden centre, most have them,

Pompey Mick Posted March 18, 2006 Author Report Posted March 18, 2006 Thanks for all suggestions, I am getting a Cat Gard from Ebay just under £20.00.
peterpau Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 sounds good mick but be careful the first one I had didn't work and they all cast "shadows"
Pompey Mick Posted March 18, 2006 Author Report Posted March 18, 2006 I shall place it on the fence opposite my L.shaped loft. The cat normally sits on the rright hand widowhood loft. ( see my loft in members Photos). It's not a major problem but my wife, who exercises my birds during the day, worries about it.
pj1001 Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 Just a word of caution on ultrasonic cat deterrents. A fancier in my club has had 2 in his gardern for the last 4 years with no problems from cats in that time. Because he nevere seen any cats around he decided to let his birds out on open doors all day. One day last April he lost 9 hens and several young birds in the nest to a cat. Why you ask? The cat was deaf and the ultrasound deterrent had no effect on it. So don't become overly dependant on it, just incase their is a deaf cat on the area.
peterpau Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 sounds right to me I'd swear by em but cats are very clever and persistant and you'd need a lot of cat scarers to cover every little corner
Pompey Mick Posted March 26, 2006 Author Report Posted March 26, 2006 Do members who have used cat deterrents leave them on all the time or just when the birds are out. The one I have just purchased is a mains powered Catgard. Incidentally my dog hears the noise so I would prefer to turn it off when no birds are out.
peterpau Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 leave mine on all the time our dog used to stay away from that end of the garden, but she's no longer with us now
NANCYVIEWLOFTS Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 WAS PLAGUED BY CATS UNTIL I GOT ONE NOT SEEN A CAT SINCE
Guest Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 Best cat remover I ever had was a Border Terrier
NANCYVIEWLOFTS Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 unfortunatly hyacinth border terriers cant jump on top of the loft
