Guest Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 hi i have an janssen based family from page brothers and a few quilty klaks and van loons they all simalar bred as close as possable to the big winners and producers not just one shot wonders all simalar in type best to best will just try and get some racing done now i hope
T_T Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 HI Ray, I am majority Busschaert based and it was a foregone conclusion that I would choose these pigeons because of where I live and what they have done on this corner. It was here in Kent where the Busschaert mania started. They took the whole country by storm. I race the Rapido lines of this family and I got them from a friend who I played darts with, quite a coincidental meeting and they certainly have a sting in their tail. My darts friend wins out of turn at all distances. The reason I prefer them is that they are not only sprinters but as has been proven up and down the country can get 500mls and that's as far as I race. UP THE HAMMERS !!
Guest Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 Our main families are Janssen, One family bred from the 019 emerald pair and our second Janssen family was bred by Daryl J Honey Snr. out of California he crossed Jan aarden into this family out of De Dolle line which gives them them the capacity to race from 100 to 600 miles, 400 as young birds. Our other family is Staf Van Reets all bred down from Dean Pallets birds by Frank MacLaughlin From Boston. We have a few "odds and ends" Desmett Matthys bred down from Tony Melucci's Capone and Barkers bred by my old friend in Stacksteads Bacup Franny Forrester.
Guest shadow Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 My main families are British faroes, Wildermeach, Lefebre Dhahen, soojens and two van reets. They cope with most of the distances I now fly used to have some southwell but sold them. " Shadowood Lofts "
mickmcgrevy Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 Hi all, only interested in the distance, so my birds are made up of the base stock pair which was Langstone Delbars cross Krauth ( the cock ) the hen was from one of Sheffields greats, the late Fred Keeton offsprings from this pair have been crossed into some Busschearts and some Herbots which we had, they do well for us out to 704 miles All the best Mick
jimmy white Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 i used to race a lot of wildies which really did well for me ,even at the distance, providing it was a fairly fast race, most of these birds came fom charlie wooff who has become a great freind over the last 20 odd years, when these birds became fairly inbred ,i crossed a few with ,charlies brothers, les from staindrop, at the time they were mostly buschearts, these crosses did actually better, i had the other odd addition , that had been bred off proven birds,,for the real hard distance races , ifound that the old scottish winning birds were the best to breed from, and race, mainly kiskpatrick based
Guest Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 Basically stock birds added / collected over last 3/4 years, from consistent Scottish long-distance families: A Deans & Jim Cameron Uddingston; G Rankin, Larkhall; John McNeill, Broxburn; A Watson Laurieston and G Coombes, Stenhousemuir.. Should have had 5x2yo for channel last year, made muck of training / race programme so not ready and not sent, except one, hawked month before, still waiting, still learning :'( No channel this year but should be 6 races around 400 miles, looking forward to that ... kinda keeping it from the birds though
Pompey Mick Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 Started in 1963 with some strays and gift birds , received some birds from my Uncle Jack Inch, in 1974 I was lucky enough to work with Jimmy Shepherd who bred me two birds down from J.McLaren's champion Julie 1st NFC Pau. I then blended some birds of Alf Baker strain and in 1982 I purchased a ten year old Alf Baker cock called the Kelly cock with his hen which produced good birds for seven years when I lost him off the loft(another story) I usually bring in the odd pigeon every 3 or 4 years, no particular strain, whatever catches my interest. I do like Grizzles so I bought some 'Bandits' five years ago for a bit of grizzle and I am currently blending them with my existing birds. I was fortunate last year to be given two eggs from Colin Angell's Solent Fed Bergerac winner 2005 which have turned out to be two cracking blue cocks of the de Klak strain which I am sure will fit in well. As you can see I have no 'Plan A' I really just muddle along enjoying my racing .
DRIES Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 MAIN STRAIN OF BIRDS RONNIE WILLIAMSON BUSSCHEARTS HAVE APPROX 40 DIRECT FROM ALL HIS NIPA WINNERS ALSO BOUGHT 3 CENTRAL SOUTHERN CLASSIC FLYING CLUB WINNERS THIS WINTER TO BLEND IN WITH THESE BIRDS, BEEN RACING SINCE 1979 AND THESE BIRDS ARE THE BEST I'VE EVER OWNED.
snowy Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 i didnt know much about strains etc, when i started, but was very lucky to be gifted some of jimmy whites kirkpatrick strain, & some pure putmans of silverwings, all of these birds have done well for them both, but also heard of crossing these 2 strains have proven to be a good racer. also been lucky to have been given some cross buscharts off the secretary of the club.
snowy Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 dont think i could even get rid of these birds even if they were no good or bred rubbish, as these birds have too much history & it would be a shame to lose these.
andy Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 RAY, MY INLAND FAMILY FOR RACING FROM THE COAST (360 MILES) ARE S.V.R & VERBRUGGENS ALTHOUGH I HAVE INTRODUCED FLOR ENGELS LAST SEASON & THEY HAVE WON FROM THE WORD GO. I FIND ALL THESE PIGEONS ARE GOOD UP TO ABOUT 8 HOURS FLYING TIME. I ALSO HAVE A FEW BUSSCHAERTS WHICH ARE GREAT ON HARDER DAYS, EASY 10 HOURS FLYING TIME. FOR THE CHANNEL 5-600 MILES I HAVE JIM BISS, DENNIS DALL & A FANTASTIC STOCK HEN FROM JOE MURPHY ALWAYS PAIRED TO MY 2nd OPEN REIMS S.N.F.C. I ONLY RACE COCKS ON WIDOWHOOD APPROX 30-36.
AlanWilkins Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 Walter Docx i heard whispers about them in 2000 and dicided to try a few out. Ended up pulling my other familys out as they were that good
peterpau Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 Started with Kirkpatricks and De weerdts in 75 these won from Thurso. More recently had some Spangles and a good variety since, having birds from five different National winning lofts. Trying to get some more Van den Plas at the min as they seem to be coming well for us. Good birds are found ?????????? you gotta lose a lott o' rubbish first. Even the best breed poor birds.
Guest Silverwings Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 Fascinating reading for me all this ! interesting to see a lot of the members still retain a link with the older families , and yet move forward and update their lofts by trying and testing the more recently developed lines , all great stuff ! please keep it coming .....ray
Guest Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 i race mostly in the spirints pigeons and trying to get a team of distance busschaerts or jan aardens.
Guest slugmonkey Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 I have been breeding own family for last 2 years using mostly Janssen based birds but am also adding DeWeerd / Jan Arden as well as Schelliken and some Ben Fichter Vandevele I fly my birds a lot and train hard I require all my yearlings to go to the 600 mile station the last year I have been concentrating on inbreeding my winners from these lines my foundation birds are mostly national ace birds with a few handpicked based entirely on performance 2 of my best birds last year were raised from 2 inbred stock birds that were the result of putting my best bird in club ( Tuffy 63 ) back with his 2nd national ace grandmother I plan on pairing these 2 with a pair of inbred birds from national ace " The Athlete " later in year I will put inbred 63 hen back with her grandfather 0120 Son of Ferrari for stock birds I also have a round of Veenstra / Koopman birds that I have yet to cross with my family these birds are doing fine without being crossed but I plan on doing some selective breeding from these lines I have also purchased some Ghysselbrechts and a couple of Marsallis birds bred from Borkeman pairs I love the way the Borkemans handle but I havent flown either of these lines yet
TheSaddler Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 I race nearly all Jim Smith Wildies, but have introduced birds from Luc Geerincx and Jos Vercammen over the past two seasons. The reason for buying Jim's birds was that the price was right and that Jim had an excellent record as a breeder of champions for other people. Geerincx and Vercammens results over the past few years have been excellent - I feel you have to always try to improve on what you have. Ther only way to do this is go to the people who's names crop up over and over again on the rezults sheets.
Mike Lycett Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 We fly mainly the M & D Evans Vandenabeeles with the odd other thing thrown in every now & again - like the G & S Verkerks.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 HELLO T_T WHAT DO HAMMERS HAVE TO DO WITH PIGEON RACING? DO YOU CHAP THEM ON THE HEAD IF THEY ARE TOO SLOW [HA-HA ]
T_T Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Hi Tammy, Thought I might add a bit of Clarat and Blue quality to the forum instead of Mikes Baggies.
deanbruton Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 we fly mainly braspenning jannssens which either have been purchased from Louella direct from the champions or direct from Berts stock loft. There are a few other janssens mixed in ie camphius and pouw etc. These birds have proved themselves over the last 6 yrs winning up to 510mls.
