bren23 Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 as you are aware i've just started in this great sport of ours, as i never had any old bird .i bought my y'b team from louella pigeon world, i bought 20 brasspenning's and 20 eagleson busschearts, they really look the part and are really healthy. do you think this was a wise move
AlanWilkins Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Chap youve done it now n have to go with it. Fly um out racr them n keep the best to breed from n race next year, if there not making the grade then look for some hing better. its a learning curve set your target n work towards to in time ull get there. All the best with um
celtic Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Yes ,work and enjoy with what you,ve got and see what happens, as Alan says if it does,nt go as planned get another family in from another source next time, you won't know until you try them.
peterpau Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 All sounds good but I wouldn't go for so many birds. Less birds and plenty of observation.
THE FIFER Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 in my view buying birds like this u can get good u can get no good there is no garauntee,
Mike Lycett Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Louella have always done Busschaerts very well indeed.. One of their best families I'd say
Joe90 Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 i have been happy with birds from louella i came 4th club 20th fed with a yearling 1927 birds this year good on you
bren23 Posted May 1, 2006 Author Report Posted May 1, 2006 in my view buying birds like this u can get good u can get no good there is no garauntee, must be the same if you spent say £200 on a stock pair there bred good and bad as well. but i get whar your saying
pigeonpete Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Hi probably bought a few to many to try em out!! but got a good chance as anywhere of getting a few good ones!! just remember though dont always blame the pigeon!! i made this big mistake last year but.... u live and learn, train em hard and keep them healthy
Guest Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 One of the first things a new Starter always asks me when they enroll on the Help a Beginner Programme, is where to get birds from. My advice is to get hold of the last few years club/combine results and see who's doing it year after year and approach that person/persons for some young birds
AlanWilkins Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 n another tip go to the club sit with the blokes n listen ull learn alot
Diamond dave Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Bren, When I started I got birds from here there and everywhere, gift birds and bought birds cos I liked them. It has taken me about 8 years to weed out the good and bad strains and bad crosses. I think you have done the RIGHT thing as you can establish a family of pigeons in a relatively short space of time (Louella have done it for you). By the same token you can just as easy dismiss these families if they do not suit your methods. Good luck mate!!!
Guest Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 You've made your choice. I'm sure you thought long & hard before making that choice. Its still very early days so there's no point in taking cold feet now. You've done what you considered right for you at the time. Go for it. Get your YB team ready for the races, enjoy the experience, and best wishes for you & your birds.
swilcox Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Learn your lessons and make your mistakes with these birds, get your loft right and a sensible system! Write everything down and listen to them that are honest. After that you may be ready to invest in the best and know you will be able to get the best from them!! Stuart
carl Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 One of the first things a new Starter always asks me when they enroll on the Help a Beginner Programme, is where to get birds from. My advice is to get hold of the last few years club/combine results and see who's doing it year after year and approach that person/persons for some youngirds spot on there hyacinth you took the words from my mouth, goto the best flyer you can find whos flying out there skin and purchase from them, now is the time to purchase the birds in my opinion as most will have bred what the require for themselfs and nows the time to get a bargain or even birds for free.I bought birds from louella myself when i first started but went out looking for the best locally also
jimmy white Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 I DONT THINK YOUVE DONE A BAD THING, AS WITH MANY OF THE POSTS ABOVE I WOULD SAY GET YOUR LOFT HUSBANDARY RIGHT, YOUR SYSTEM RIGHT, A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE, AND YOULL SOON FIND OUT THE GOOD ONES,FROM THE BAD.IN FACT I THINK TOO MANY FANCIERS ARE TOO QUICK TO BLAME THE PIGEON ,WHEN ITS THEMSELVES THEY SHOULD BE LOOKING AT.
Guest speckled Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 :X :X Ah dont mean to be Funny, But ye Bruno i agree, to late to change ya mind now ya brought them, should of asked before the buy, :-/ insteed of after. But you made the choice,& ;D hope ya do well with them? :X Speck
