Guest Paulo Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 This is a bit of a naff question and feel free to take the mick but how do you go about using amtrak? Never used them before for anything anybody got contact numbers, or can tell me how the service works?
REDCHEQHEN Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 You have obviously got access to the internet - make use of it. Directory enquiries are free, www.bt.com amtrak have their own website, but the service is sub-contracted out in my area to a company called Gemini ? My local office is Thornaby 01642 763676, I phone them up, tell them I want x no. of pigeons picking up from such and such an address - with post code, and generally they'll say, we'll do that this afternoon, and I'll say I'll pick them up from the Thornaby office in the morning, and I usually pick them up at 8.00am the following morning. They have NEVER let me down.
Guest shadow Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 ring them up the local number will be in yellow pages. if you want a bird collocting from someone else you give them his name and address, phone number and arrange for amtrack to colloct telling them you will pay for it at your end they will also need your details.Dont ring on a friday as saturday delivery is extra. Hope this helps furthe info PM me
Guest Paulo Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 thanks lads wasn't sure if I needed to open an account or anything
Guest Paulo Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 sorted nice young lass on the phone very helpfull hopefully I won't have no problems with them seen a few threads on here where people have had birds go missing.
pigeonpete Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 Good luck paulo!! i cringe everytime i hear the words "amtrak" lol
T_T Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 Paulo, Listening to other comments/remarks about transporting our pigeons, Phantom Flyer sounds very reliable as a courier for racing pigeons, depending on the area you live in. I think you may be OK.
nipper Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 When you ring , make sure you ask them to bring boxes !! If you have time and the local office is close enough,go and pick up the boxes yourself and then you can be ready when they call . My local office rings me when the birds come off the night trunk van's . I then go and collect them instead of waiting untill 4.30/5.00 for them to be delivered . Just a few idea's , hope it help,s
Guest Paulo Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 seem to have a bit of a bad press amtrak bit worried now after looking at the other threads with them on. Hopefully they will perform this time.
peterpau Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 Make sure you use potcode, county and contact numbers. I consider I've been lucky with no problems.
slatey Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 you must use the post code else it may get mis-sorted/ sent to the wrong depot. tomo ps i am a courier but not for amtrak
Guest Paulo Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 No worries lads used the postcodes so hopefully will be ok. WAs talking to the pigeonman who has the allotment next to my new one last night and he was saying he learn't that the hard way as two streets with same name in place he was getting his birds collected from one was a street and the other was a terrace so they went to the wrong one lol sods law I guess
