jimmy white Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 in these most distance races no matter what organization your in, you see the same names crop up time after time, my humble opinion is ,off course you need the bird, but the management is one of the most important factors in distance racing, or any racing when it comes to that,,,,, any views
Guest jason Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 your not wrong jimmy, we have one member who normally wins all the races upto 300 mile and another member who wins them all above 300 miles and they both take some beating! they both have their own methods and seem to know exactly what to do with their birds for instance if they don't win one week you can garantee they will win the week after! jason
GROVEHOMER Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 In their hayday seb coe, steve ovett and steve cram wouldn't have seen the inside of an olympic stadium let alone win all those medals and break those records if they'd eaten takeaways on their way home from the pub. By the same token if those very athletes had been born with or developed a weakness such as a weak heart or a serious hip problem, no amount of good training and good diet would see them in the medals. My thoughts are that these fanciers we see at the top from the distance events know good pigeons when they see them and they know how to get the best out of them by good management.
Chris Little Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 For long distance racing it is more so the pigeon than management
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 SO IF YOU FEED IT FISH AND CHIPS IT WILL STILL WIN
Chris Little Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 You'd be surprised If you aint got the tackle then forget it, there is many feeding methods but only one kind of pigeon for the long distance..... good ones ;D
THE FIFER Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 I AGREE WITH CHRIS, NO MATTER HOW GOOD U MANAGE U MUST HAVE THE BIRDS, BUT REALLY BAD MANAGEMRNT CAN PUT GOOD BIRDS DOWN.
Westwater Assassin Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 If you don't have the tools for the job , then the job won't get done. A "good pigeon" will win in even the worst fanciers hands but placed in the hand of a good "manager" then you would see results. The 500+ birds must have 2 things : 1 - A "BIG" HEART 2 - A BRAIN There is alot of pigeon fanciers out there have the first but not so many have the second. We here it all the time "YOU CAN'T BUY THE MAN" this is a very true statment and when it comes to the real distance birds 500+ i personally believe it is more the bird than the manager.
GROVEHOMER Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 If I owned a tool shop would that make me a craftsman? Good pigeons are paramount, and they will win under poor management, but they will win year in, year out in good hands.
superstar Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 Its a combination of man and bird. You can make a good pigeon bad, but not a bad pigeon good!
Guest WINGS 04 Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 I THINK YOU NEED THE BIRDS FIRST THEN THE MAN MORE 80 % 20 IN THE BIRDS FAVER
jimmy white Posted July 21, 2006 Author Report Posted July 21, 2006 I AGREE WITH MOST POSTS ABOVE,,BUT A GOOD DISTANCE PIGEON WILL" NOT" JUST WIN UNDER ANY MANAGEMENT, IT HAS TO BE MANAGED FOR THAT RACE IN QUESTION I.E/ IF A GREAT DISTANCE PIGEON IS MANAGED IN SUCH A WAY ,THAT ITS TRAINING SRARTED IN MARCH ,GOING EVERYDAY IN EAST WINDS,,,,THEN HAVING 10 RACES THEN EXPECTED TO WIN AT 5 600 MILES ,,,,NO MANAGEMENT COUNTS,,,MY OPINION
Tony C Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 I don't know what way to call it. If it were 70% pigeon 30% fancier how come the good consistent fanciers at the distance win 90% of the races with only having 30% input to the outcome of the race? Now if it were 70%/30% in the fanciers favour does this mean the breeding of the pigeon doesn't count for much, its how you manage them that counts? Think its falls somewhere in-between the two, both good at what they do
jimmy white Posted July 21, 2006 Author Report Posted July 21, 2006 agree tony,,,needs good pigeons for the job in hand , but it musy be managed to suit
jimmy white Posted July 21, 2006 Author Report Posted July 21, 2006 just have a look at all the previous winners and prize winners on snfc website, thatll ,let you know how theve all been managed, most of these winning pigeons are bred for the job, and have been managed for the job, i.e very little racing, and good mature pigeons,,we all know you will get the odd exception to the rule,,,if these great pigeons that have won nationals, were raced by joe bloggs down at the club,,,,,would they have still won?
Guest Paulo Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 combo of both really its like any sport a good coach can get the best out of an average sportsman but to be great the talent has to be there as well
