NANCYVIEWLOFTS Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 hi everyone the problem with the reporting of young birds is getting worse and worse each year we have reported every youngster that has been wing stamped at least 10 this season with only one sending for it well i say sending for it he acctually picked it up as he only lived 5 miles away when you report them to be honest all you get is either can you throw it up/ do you want it /or as 2 fanciers have said can you neck it never asking as to the condition of the bird im not saying every one is like that but those i have had contact with have been also most fanciers will not have stray youngsters in or around the loft area due in my mind for the fear of catching youngbird sickness and rightly so if we had a unwritten rule that all fanciers could stamp their birds with a C or a R the C would stand for CULL and the R would stand for REPORT i know some fanciers will say its not their job to cull other peoples birds but again to be honest how many of us actually want young birds back in a box
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 OVER THE LAST MONTH I HAVE BEEN CONTACTED BY AT LEAST TWENTY FIVE PEOPLE FROM ENGLAND ASKING IF I COULD SORT OUT THE SCOTTISH YOUNG BIRDS THEY HAD IN AND EVERYONE OF THEM WERE RETURNED HOME, ONLY TAKES A PHONE CALL IN MOST CASES, ONE OR TWO THAT I HAVE TO ASK MORE THAN ONCE GET AN EARLY MORNING CALL USUALLY ABOUT 5am NEVER HAVE TO PHONE THEM AGAIN
JAS Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 Spot on Oldbird we have said that should happen for years. The amount of youngsters that are lost now we have to do something. This year we have sent for 5 and 2 more coming tomorrow. Not all young birds are duds.
NANCYVIEWLOFTS Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 can you tell us why scottish birds are not wing stamped
Guest Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 SHU BIRDS SHOULD BE WING STAMPED ITS A SHU RULE ITS UP TO THE CLUBS TO CHECK THEM WHEN THEY GO TO A RACE
THE FIFER Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 yes this was passed clocky, the mistake lies in the rule book ie race rule 24 "individual organisations will decide whether members may be allowed to race young birds which are wearing removable address rings or which have been wing stamped with name and address or phone number" so that rule leaves it up to the organisations, then u have rule 26, " members of all shu clubs should wing stamp all their young birds with either (a) a personal telephone number or address, or ( their club address or number, any member not complying should not be allowed to race their young birds" the wording where it says "SHOULD" wing stamp, this should be "WILL" so this is a mistake in the rule book rule 24 should have been taken out,
sapper756 Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 Aother problem we have up here in Scotland is that federations say you should wingstamp all youngsters, yet the SNFC do not allow you to enter birds that are wingstamped into the young bird national.A case of the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing!
Guest Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 Must admit hadn't read these rules the way you have done, Archie. Had thought all young birds had to be EITHER wing stamped OR carry an address ring. Agree with your point that there shouldn't be loop-holes or interpretations, and acknowledge Andy's point too about SNFC not allowing young birds to carry anything that could identify their owners . Quite used to drafting rules in my former employment [railways]. No room for error there. The word you are looking for is MUST. i.e Rule 26 :- Members of all SHU clubs MUST wing stamp ....
THE FIFER Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 YES BRUNO AGREE WITH MUST, I LEARNT A LOT AS A BRANCH OFFICIAL IN A NATIONAL TRADE UNION, AND WAS ALWAYS MADE TO BELIEVE THAT IF THERE ARE TOW RULES CONFLICTING WITH ONE ANOTHER "THE OLD RULE PREVAILS, WHICH IN THIS CASE WOULD BE RULE 24, THIS BY THE WAY IS IN THE NEW SHU RULE BOOK FOR 2006, A MISTAKE BUT STILL THERE.
jimmy white Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 i was invited to fed meeting ran under ,,",shu, club rule 33,", can anyone tell me where this is in the rule book ??? should this meeting have been void [as there is no club rule 33]
THE FIFER Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 I WOULD THINK THIS WAS MEANT TO BE SHU RULE 33 JIMMY, WHICH IS TO DO WITH CLUBS FEDS AND ORGANISATIONS BEING ABLE TO SUSPEND MEMBERS ETC, WONT GO INTO THE FULL DETAILS BUT THERE IS A SHU RULE 33. ITS ON PAGE 7
Roland Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 Had same Jimmy, then did reach the guy he said 'Er leave it with me, I'll phone you back er, and took me number etc again. After a week so I was ringing to no avail - 'I am by RPRA rules nigh beholden to keep till it's sort. Long story short, got him again and he said 'Yeah I remeber now... I was of on holiday that week - end and thought you'd have got shot or lost it by now'! I said no like, he asks what colour, I says a Black.. He said, 'Oh ah, er I have plenty of them, can you nexk it for me, to say the trouble'. I told him straight and met his wife 20 miles up the road where I train, who sheepishly took it. Yes crap for manner too I reckon.
jimmy white Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 thats what im saying fifer they cant say what its meant to say they can only say what the rules state , i.e there is no club rule 33 ,so meeting should have been void as it was held under a non existing rule.
THE FIFER Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 YES THERE IS NO CLUB RULE 33, WHEN DEALING WITH RULES WORDING MUST BE WORD PERFECT AS THE RULES.
