ribble Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 i'd say they are the best about.they have them on show at b'pool.
THE FIFER Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 THE ONES ON SHOW AT BLACKPOOL CERTAINLY LOOKED THE PART.
pj1001 Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 The organisation we fly in in Ireland have 2 Geraldy trailers, that house 3-5000 birds each depending on numbers in baskets. The trailers are air conditioned and also have automatic watering systems on one side of the baskets. IF the trailer and baskets could be changed it would be a big plus to have drinkers on 3 sides of the baskets (or at least the 2 longest sides and possibly food on the other side). Alsos I have been told but haven't seen for myself that when liberating the birds in the bottom baskets can be liberated up to 1 1/2 minutes before the top baskets as that is the average time it takes the electric rollup shutters to move from bottom to top. So perhaps these are a couple of things worth considering Paul. They are excellent trailers though and since we have started to use them especially with the clear plastic flaps on the baskets returns especiially with young birds has generally improved. Hope this is of some help. PJ
THE FIFER Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 PJ1001 I HAVE PUT THIS FORWARD FOR YEARS, THE BASKETS AND TRANSPORTERS ARE NOT MADE FOR DRINKERS ETC, DRINKERS IN DAYS GONE BUY WERE ALWAYS ON THE LONG SIDE OF THE BASKETS, SO U HAD DRINKERS ON EACH SIDE, ALOWING ALL BIRDS TO GET AT THEM NOT JUST ON ONE END WHERE BIRDS ON THE OTHER CAN'T SEE THEM OR GET TO THEM
square_peg Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 YOU MUST BE OLDER THAN YOU LOOK ARCH, I'M 45 AND IN ALL MY TIME THE DRINKERS HAVE ALLWAYS BEEN ON THE SHORTEST BIT OF THE CRATE ??)
Guest Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 think i'll buy one how much are the small one's???
PIGEON_MAN Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 DID ANYONE BUY ONE OF THE SMALL TYPE THAT YOU CAN FIT ON TOP OF AN ESTATE CAR,WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE ONE ON SHOW AT BLACKPOOL,I THINK THEY HELD ABOUT 60 BIRDS BUT AT £380 WERE A BIT EXPENSIVE AT THE TIME,MAY BE A BIT CHEAPER NOW.
Chris Little Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 think i'll buy one how much are the small one's??? I think they are around £2500
Guest Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 thats not bad how many birds does a small one hold?
Guest Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 its not just for me rose its for my clubmates to use aswell
THE FIFER Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 the old baskets arch used to have ports for drinkers on one long side and the other long side was for the drop for liberating, if u look at a 15 bird basket which u get today they are still made this way, all was changed to suit and get more birds on transporters. yes i am a wee bit older arch, i am talking about the late 50s early 60s, when we used the railways
Guest Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 you tell him archie now its a 15 bird basket for the whole club :-/
Chris Little Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 Check out their site http://www.geraldy-kfz.de/eng/content_anhaenger.html Cheers Chris
jimmy white Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 im just smiling at fifers post , about the railways, my father was the goods gaurd on the "pigeon train" these birds were looked after so well with convoyer joe copeland, both my father and joe would check on these birds all the time , making sure there was plenty" clean" water, and keeping their eyes open for injured ,sick or pecked birds, they had no hesitation of breaking the seal and removing a pigeon"trust " hard to get nowadays,,these birds were taken off by porters at there destination at the end of the platform, able to get air all about and see about, less losses then.??? P/S when we took our birds for a toss at the station ,as young lads, they wieghed the basket and charged you accordingly ;D ;D, well us little tykes would put our foot under the scales ;D ;D just to make them "slightly lighter" ;D ;D ;D and got a 50 mile toss for 3 shillings ;D ;D ;D the porter weighing these new that, ;D ;D as he got to know us ;D ;D and when the basket came back the label was filled in ,,lib at such and such a time and even the weather, cloudy or sunny etc ;D ;D ;D and we cycled to the railway station with the basket on the carrier on the bike ;D ;D ;D JUST BROUGHT IT ALL BACK TO ME FIFER, AND HAD TO SMILE ;D ;D ;D
Guest Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 We 'will have' the ability to feed & water on 3 sides. 1 x conventional drinker / feeder on outside, next to the internal corridor. 2 x smaller plastic drinker / feeders which clip onto the same end, and sit inside the basket, positioned along each of the sides. Also think the Geraldi release system top class; the bottom baskets are released a fraction earlier than those above, stops these birds getting smashed to the ground by the ones above them. We have that too, but manually operated.
Roland Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 Northants Fed has one. had a bit of trouble with theirs like, 3 seasons later about right. Watering, Feeding etc. and DOORS opening. etc. etc.
THE FIFER Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 THEY WERE SELLING A FEW SECONDHAND AT THE BEGINING OF THE SEASON
