Guest Silverwings Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 what are our Members thourghts on this ? think F.W.Marriot is in the reconing for the best from the past ? what about todays choice any ideas ?
Chris Little Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 Good question Silverwings..... no doubt many an argument will develop. My answer has to be Geoff Kirkland Why..... the guy is an absolute legend when it comes to national racing and his families win for others , our 3 national winners all contain Geoff's bloodlines.
jimmy white Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 definately a hard one that , many of these old pioneers we have to thank,, dr anderson did a lot for scotland, but there are many
andy Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 BEST FANCIER FROM THE PAST FOR ME IN DISTANCE RACING HAS TO HAVE BEEN EDDIE NEWCOMBE, AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND IN THE 70s & EARLY 80s AGAINST ALL THE BEST WHEN ALL THE BEST WERE RACING.......
jimmy white Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 could be right there andy, taking first 4 in gold cup 550 miles approx 5000 birds was only one of his many results
Chris Little Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 Good one mate , he was a very close second behind my choice GWK
Mike Lycett Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 GWK is a legend - but Jim did it North & South decade after decade
Guest Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 G Kirkland would get my vote over Biss any day. Biss flew to flat lands
Mike Lycett Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Yeah - right.... 600 miles of flatlands better than anybody else ever did it into the UK !!!.
Guest Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Opinions are like butt holes everyone's got one lol
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 G Kirkland would get my vote over Biss any day. Biss flew to flat lands NOW NOW HYACINTH PEOPLE COULD CONSTRUE THIS AS YOU PUTTING A GOOD FLIER DOWN. {HA HA HA }
Guest ian snaith Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 surelly the better fanciers are the guys who get the best results when only sending 2-3 birds to 500 miles not 50s-60-70s to 500 mile ...............one of this sites members has a cracking record in nfc and bicc not send ing loads of pigeons john and rose willis show quality prepared pigeons wil beat quantity
fifestay Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Yup Biss is the Man, Flatlands ...his Birds had to come in over the Wash North .South extreme distance all..... It was his consistancy over five decades remember his Birds did it from two locations Brundall and Biss and Waite
sj irving jnr Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 i have to go with matt jamieson he is over 80 years old and still getting them every year he would of not been that far away from winning the south section averages last year if he had sent to the inland national and he only keeps about 20 old birds,if he was in belgum he would be as big as the jannsen bros.
Guest ben Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Your right Ian, John and Rose, alongside john and spencer Nicolson must rank as something very very special, and there are some other small lofts who never get the recognition they deserve. Mr Biss for all the hype never ever did what he should have against the euro boys, this was 1 man who should have competed on par with the best of europe, but he failed big time,i still do not understand what stops the brits from competing successfully in the internationals, the answer lies out there somewhere.
Mike Lycett Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Ian.. When they come out the basket at 600 miles + then it don't matter how many he sends- he always gets 'em. It's not a relay race - his record remains above & beyond anybody that the UK has ever seen. Then look at the amount of National winners he's responsible for for other people. LOADS !!! That's quality !!
Guest Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Jim Biss was a very wealthy person and could pay for the help he needed to care for and train his pigeons, not to mention an open ended wallet to buy whatever he wanted. Bet Bis never had to carry his water down to his allotment in the morning and evening, bet Biss forgot what a scraper was. There is no comparison to some of the allotment and back yard flyer who are winning club fed and combine week after week both inland and over the Brook THOSE ARE REAL PIGEON MEN/WOMEN
peterpau Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Biss, Newcome, Kirkland, all top boys but how about a flyer that was at a great disadvantage and still took one of the countries top honours. Jed Jackson for me....
maverick Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 EDDIE NEWCOMBE FOR ME. I THINK HE WAS 5 TIMES BRITISH FANCIER OF THE YEAR AND TWICE RUNNER UP NO ONE ELSE HAS ANYTHING NEAR TO THAT. GREAT FLYER AT THE DISTANCE
swilcox Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 For pure long distance to a back garden loft Fear Brothers of Clandown, won 1st Pau NFC and 1st Palomas BBC on the same day, these two pigeons were the cornerstone of S G Biss success. They also won 1st CSCFC Pau plus many many more top prizes from the long end. Stuart
Guest WINGS 04 Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 I THINK YOU CAN NOT PICK ONE PERSON AS THE BEST AS WHERE YOU LIVE CAN PLAY A BIG PART TO HOW GOOD YOU ARE AS I KNOW SOME OF THE FLYERS IN THE WEST SECTON OF THE SNFC WOULD NOT TAKE THE FIRTS BIRD IN THE SNFC EVEN IF THEY ARE FLYING THE SAME DISTENC OR MORE
andy Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 EDDIE NEWCOMBE FOR ME. I THINK HE WAS 5 TIMES BRITISH FANCIER OF THE YEAR AND TWICE RUNNER UP NO ONE ELSE HAS ANYTHING NEAR TO THAT. GREAT FLYER AT THE DISTANCE JOHN NEARLY RIGHT: 4 TIMES WINNER, TWICE RUNNER UP.
Mike Lycett Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Biss remains unparalleled. Plenty of millionaires in this game - none have done what he's done. It's not a guarantee. Sure, it can help, but his record remains unmatched by anybody.
