johno Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 heard the same as you me. john was forwarding articles after spending a lot time on them. the bhw published everything other scribes could produce. his articles were not being published regularly so john withdrew. i believe he wrote to the editor outlining his position.

Cant say if this is true or not. He stopped writing once before because he was a bit bored with his 'novices' column, and that's when the Ed contacted him and he agreed to write his 'Countryside' articles. But I do know that John said at the end of what was to be his last 'Countryside' article, that it was his last. Didn't give any reasons, but he attended one of our functions last year and he looked far from well. So reckoned it was down to a health problem. Agree very much with what was said about his articles ... lot of interesting things in them, especially about wildlife. CN was another one that left BHW before writing his promised article on Sam & Roly Fear. He didn't give a reason either.
Guest Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 yeah lots of interesting stuff, when i worked there the editor did contact him just as bruno said. then he was writing like a article every month or so.
johno Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 john harwood explained why he was giving up writing bhw over a cup of tea with some friends. i was there. the only reason given was that articles were being put on back burner. felt that effort was not being recognised while others could have anything published. bruno if your theory on illness has any merit do you believe john would still be writng and subsribing to the racing pigeon weekly. does not add up.

Chris Little Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 There are one or two exceptions in the BHW John 8) ;D ;D

Only telling what I remember about his last article and the last time I saw John. I'd also like to say that I did not recognise him, he was actually pointed out to me, and my clubmate also felt he looked really unwell. I'm really sorry to hear what you've said about why he left the BHW, Johno. He was excellent at writing articles, and the loss of a writer of his calibre gives no credit to the BHW Ed. Definite gain for the Racing Pigeon. ;D
