jimmy white Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 one of the queerest once i seen was ,, if you put a drop of aquas iodine in their water [not the iodine for putting on sores] it makes the water look cloudy ,,, but two or three drops of baby vitamin drops in it , it goes back to clear water ,, strange but true ,, try it ;D ;D ;D honest
me Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 "U HAVE GOT SOMETHING RIGHT ME" i Don't take this the wrong way I honestly only have the birds interest at heart. somebody posted on this site that their birde had greasy wattles you told them to use cider vinegar WRONG WRONG WRONG. Change the PH of your birds crop if you want but if it has a bad infection caused by mycoplasma or chlamydia what good are you doing NONE!
me Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 "And natural remedies are sometimes far better that the crap the vets sell at sky high prices to shove down our pigeons throats" vets are the same as any other profession some are better than others why would that not be the case. "that docs useless" "that builders useless"etc etc but if my favourite bird who had been timed 6 or more times from france was not well i would take it to a vet i had learned to trust rather than anyone i have read pontificating on this site and who could blame me. the birds are important to me nothing else. Nothing else at all!
me Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 "I THINK THE IDEA OF THIS THREAD IS TO TRY AND SAVE MONEY FOR FANCIERS NOT LINE THE POCKETS OF VETS" You are WRONG WRONG WRONG as well then Alf the point of this thread should be the welfare of your birds!!! Pigeons are dead simple things and they like dead simple people who love them to bits and look after them and when they do(o) it is a lot easier to get them to come home in the dark from france after flying for 15 or 16 or amazingly sometimes after 17 hours on the wing!!
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 whats the dosage of bi carb , if i remember right that was the main ingredient in the white sesqui pills of old hand ,,could be wrong THIS WAS GIVEN TO ME BY SOMEONE WHO HAS USED IT FOR ABOUT 40 YEARS,, ONE TEASPOON IN A FIVE PINT DRINKER, HE HAS NEVER HAD CANKER, WATTLES ALWAYS WHITE AND NEVER EVER DONE ANY HARM TO BIRDS , AND THE CHAP WHO TOLD ME ABOUT THIS HAS HAD EXCELLENT RESULTS IN THE SNFC, AND I WOULD TEND TO LISTEN TO THE ADVICE LIKE THIS THAT IS GIVEN FREELY, NOBODY IS FORCED TO TRY ANYTHING ON THIS THREAD IT IS JUST SUGGESTIONS THAT HAVE BEEN TRIED AND USED ,
THE FIFER Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 VINEGAR AND BI-CARB MIXED TURNS INTO GAS,
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 some of you guys do not have a clue soda bic is great for indigestion IF YOU GET THE DOSAG RIGHT!! IT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS RENAL AND HEPTATIC PROBLEMS IF TAKEN AT THE WRONG QUANTITIES AT THE WRONG TIME. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES USE IT AT THE SAME TIME AS THAT OTHER FAVOURITE OF A LOT OF PEOPLE ON THIS SITE CIDER VINEGAR IT WILL BURN THE INSIDES OUT OF YOUR BIRDS (CHEMICAL REACTION) PLEASE PLEASE TRUST ME ON THIS ONE I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT[/quote DID YOU DO THIS ? AND I THINK THERE WILL BE A LOT MORE PEOPLE OFF THE SITE THAT USE CIDER VINEGAR AS ANOTHER ADDITIVE.
THE FIFER Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 I USE VINEGAR, I DONT USE BI-CARB, BOTH THOSE MIXED TURN INTO GAS, GREAT FOR MAKING CRISPY BATTER,
Guest Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 You can save yourself money and un necessary trips to Vets by purchasing a microscope
Guest Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 Must admit to having same reservations as Me to using bicarb, and also to possible side effects of 'mixing things', especially the wrong things as pointed out acid / alkali. I believe a lot of fanciers may cause their own wet dropping problems by mixing products and specifics which [unintentionally] give the bird an overdose of salt. Like most of the thread I think its pure common sense stuff, humans take bicarb preparations to cure excess acidity that causes digestive upsets, so it would obviously be unwise to mix these. The other bit I'm not sure about is the water left over from the boiled veg. Surely boiling will kill everything, including beneficial stuff like vitamins, stone dead? And also agree with Me that when push comes to shove, if your remedy doesn't work or work quickly, then its a definite avian vet job. But again feel the thread is really about natural preventatives to help keep problems out of the loft, rather than remedies after there's a problem got into the loft.
me Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 "DID YOU DO THIS ? " nope but I did go to school ,although it was a long time ago
ALF Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 GOT TO SAY YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER MIX ANYTHING THAT WILL CAUSE A CHEMICAL REACTION OR YOU AND YOUR BIRDS ARE IN TROUBLE ;) ;)
ALF Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 AND I SAY THIS AS A COLLEAGUE WAS BLINDED BY MIXING THINGS THAT CAUSED A CHEMICAL REACTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JohnS Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 regarding the iodine mentioned in a previous post by TAMMY. 2-3 drops once a week. is it a particular type of iodine that must be used? and also regards the cidar vinegar/bi carb reacting against each other what is best way of avoiding this? is it as simple as use one and not the other?

HAS TO BE AQUEOUS IODINE AND YOU USE ONE AT A TIME EITHER BICARB OR THE VINEGAR NEVER TOGETHER
Dougie Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 Isogel Ispaghula husk is a bulk-forming laxative. It is used to treat constipation. This medicine swells when in contact with fluid and works by increasing the volume of the gut contents. This causes the muscle in the gut to push the contents of the gut along more quickly.
