stevebelbin Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 I went to a mates clearance sale last year and he sold a cock known as "The Dickens Cock" and it went for £4000 :o !!! He was expected no more than £1000 for it, so I think he was a tad chuffed lol. And most of the others went for £500-1500!!!! Worlds gone mad ;D ;D ;D. That said though the Dickens cock bred numerous winners and kept the lad near the top of his club for a few years - So maybe he was worth that?? I was fortunate to know him and was given a YB through the dickens cock for nothing !!
gangster Posted January 15, 2007 Author Report Posted January 15, 2007 NO JUST LEARNED A GOOD LESSON..............BUY WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD TO SPEND.........
Roland Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 £80 for 10 off Tom Robinson of Scarboroug( what a knowleagdable man!) ... There was suppose to be 12, but one had a bad hatch (or no hatch) and I still paid the same, plus my petrol LOL. They were class acts. had the blood rife in loft Then mixe with another two strings of blood. Can't mate them up now, as nearly all are related, cousins etc.
swilcox Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 3000 euros on champion White Nose, sold him for 5900 euros!!! But mostly i think £100 - £200 is enough unless they have been there and done it!!!! Stuart
PIGEON_MAN Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 The bird that as probabley been my best ever racer cost me £3.25 in a auction sale we had at our club, and the bird that as been my best breeder cost me £25 at a clearance sale, picked him out of about 70 birds only by his eye.
Guest coxy Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 alot of ppl always say the best birds r the ones u have given to ya and in alot of cases this is rite
Guest jason Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 most i've paid.....£100 for 'gisela' our best stock hen (bred winners)and £100 for a son of F & A Taskers 'Filmstar' also bred winners for me and other fanciers. I was told when i started racing.....never pay more than £20 per bird (if you plan to race it) if you lose it, its money down the drain. jason

velo99 Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 I paid $150.00 for a proven pair of birms. Yes they do have the goods. Probably running 60 percent keepers. M8 was focusing his breeding program around two other pairs they were more to his taste.
Guest Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 £900 for 3 jan aarden stock birds from louella, have nothing from them at all to speak of so got rid this year. Father of my combine winner gifted to me by a good friend. He raced exceptionally well and now breeds winners.
Guest Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 most ive paid for a bird is £55..unless ur really fanatical about racing then i dont see why pay huge amounts on birds. ive remained a half decent flyer in club and fed for a few years(i dont race nationals) and havent spent near half on birds wot some of my club m8s have. i think theres a lot of flyers who spend to say ive got this and that in my cot, but do nothing with them. then it becomes an expensive hobby/sport. if someone enjoys racing a huge amount then spending a large sum on a bird is ok.but only if u do summut with its potential.....paul
blackjack Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 £50 for a son of Des Coulters No Surprise and the same for a daughter of his Spanish diploma winner he was never out of the first 25 and they have done me a lot of good.
mark Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 £30 for a pair of buschaerts latebreds in 1988 bred winners from the word go hawk got him in the end.
Pompey Mick Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 Paid £100.00 for a pair of Alf Bakers in 1982, The cock (The Kelly Cock) was 10yr old and I bred off him for 7yrs till I lost him off the roof and he was reported 60mls away six months later (at 17yr old) Got him back, paired him up, let him out again and away he went never to be seen again. His blood still runs through my birds today (a bit dilute now)
schyphos Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 £300 for a son of Joop Groenen's "The President".President now dead.Best value i got though is probably a son of Tony Mardons Toey's Special who is sure to go for big bucks at his sale in Blackpool.I paid £35 for this cock. Will find out if they are any good this year,as i have not bred from them yet.
hillfamilyloft Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 Have yet to pay for a bird. A good friend of mine keeps me stocked. I do buy his bands for him every year. He does not need the money and likes helping newbees. I do have birds others are selling for hundreds of dollars. I have yet to sell any birds. I give them away. The ones worth selling are still in my loft. Randy
