jimmy white Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 as you will have probably noticed , ive been at the comp , the early hours ofthe morning,,,,, this is because of sleeplessness, caused shocking back pain caused by an arthritic desease, but certainly no joke,,,its agony,,,,,, anyone else have this problem , and any advice as to how they manage their birds etc
Guest CS Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 Jimmy, I hope you getting better soon... Keep few pigeons that you can handle, and put sands in the floor, you'll need to clean once a week, maybe 2 per week if you can handle it....
THE FIFER Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 just try and keep occupied jimmy, they tell u its just fair ware and tare at the doctors, and u get some medicines etc but only last for a wee while, all the best,
Tony C Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 With regards to the pigeons use easy-bed on the floor, boxes/perches at a manageable height and get the pigeons as tame as you can. As for the pain its a matter of keeping that thought in your head that it will go.
Guest Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 As you know Jimmy, my wife suffers from a different degenerative bone disease which causes her a great deal of pain too (spine & legs). She also has arthritis (hands & wrists). On painkillers, her next step is morphine, which she isn't prepared for: she has a painkiller which she takes 3 times a day; doctor says to take a 4th when things get too bad. (Side effects include drowsiness.) Maybe see your doctor on upping or changing your medication as your body eventuially builds up a tolerance to it? On painrelief , she finds baths & bath salts help, and used TENS (electric shock therapy) for a while, got some relief in that. Chemist sell kit at £10 now. Maybe aromatherapy or some music to help ease tension? On stopping her doing 'unwise' things, that's where I come in: So my same advice to you don't be carrying heavy things, like shopping, get someone to fetch it or get it delivered; See about a Home Help for cleaning etc; Max: that's a heavy bird cage; what about one for the garden and one for the house, carry the bird, not the cage. Block off all nest boxes that you need to bend to get to. Remember that the pain you are feeling now is probably the result of something 'unwise' you did / overdid a day or so ago. Hope things get better.
jimmy white Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 yor probably bang on bruno,,overdid it a bit yesterday ,, im on the strongest pain killers ,, i have a tens machine plus these anti t,n f injections twice a week , i have easy bed on the floor of my loft , but scrape the perches , then my hand swells up , i also have the drinkers well off the floor , so really find i cant do much more,, but a few months ago this complaint became reasonable,, and my neck turning ok now, ,, just seems to be a wee bad spell, but as usual allways seems worse during the night early morning ,, i know theres a few on the forum with dissabilities , so wish you lads and lasses well and hope it doesnt get you down,, think we should all look at the positive side , spring showing through now, more interest in birds now , and unfortunately its a true saying,, theres allways someone worse of than yourself ,,so maybe worth a word to main man up above , god bless all p,s thanks all
Guest Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 i suffer badly with my back and i find that if i fill a hot water bottle with fairly hot but not boiling water place it in a towel and place it in the small of my back after i come out of the cot(after cleaning when i can), it tends to deaden the pain. i can lift things but not repeatedly.this weather isnt exactly the weather for ppl with bad backs!. paul

Guest Vic Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 Jimmy! Sorry to hear that the old bones are not what they were, I suffer slightly sometimes, but when it comes , it comes without warning. No excessive lifting etc. Just a stoop with a scraper maybe, will set it going! But, Jesus! It is agonising when it does come. I am scared to move. Luckilly enough, it doesn't last for more than 30 minutes or so, , Thank God. I am on pain killers also, but they don't work on this one, I sometimes reach for Scottish or Irish elixir for comfort, which I will always be eternally grateful for. God Bless all of us with creaking bones. Vic.
Roland Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 Never had it in the Army Vic did you. Sleep on the floor a few nights. Then that Glynstac Sulphur, two tabs for a while then just one.
Guest Vic Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 Roland, I went right through my Army service without any physical complaints whatsoever. I actualy was an athlete, believe it or not. Centre forward (striker) for my REME Workshop in Minden, AND opening bat, when we managed to reach the final of the BAOR cricket scene. I was given 2 weeks off! just to practice in the nets, but failed miserabely at the final hurdle, I STILL have nightmares about the fat guy who claimed me, at Point so early on. But life goes on, and without the "micks" I doubt if I'd still be around. But I am still as keen as mustard, and will give anybody in either club that I will be participating in, a good run for their money. There's PLENTY OF LIFE IN THE OLD DOG YET! Vic.
