Okitsme Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 Hi Has anybody ever had any problems from their neighbours about their pigeons. Neighbours being worried about disease, vermin and mess. Just thought of this problem.
stevebelbin Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 My lofts are in the garden and ive never had any complaints as of yet :-). You could do it one of two ways, Option 1: - Just put them up and hope for the best. Option 2: - You could ask yours neighbours how they feel. I opted for option 1 as I thought if I asked them, I would putting doubt in there mind straight away. It all depends on how pedantic your neighbours are I think. Also in a garden you need to keep everything clean and tidy, so they have nothing to use as ammunition if they reported you to the council.
Okitsme Posted May 9, 2007 Author Report Posted May 9, 2007 I think the only problem you could get from the is if your building is "over" the size limit. I will keep my garden clean and hope for the best. I have already told one of my neighbours I am getting a loft and pigeons and he thought that was cool. So heres hoping the other neighbours feel the same.
Guest Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 Long time ago now, postage stamp size garden and loft to match, first told my neighbours I'd like to keep a few pigeons and got the cold shoulder. Tried an allotment for a year, didn't suit so erected a small loft [gifted to me] in back garden on Saturday and had man from Council at my door on the Monday. I think you tell the neighbours what you are going to do in your garden, and not the other way about, at the same time be a good neighbour and don't create nuisance.
Roland Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 And remember that THE council man has no right whatsoever to look inside your loft etc. etc. Indeed if he knocked my front door and asked - they usually try to state that they will look - to check my loft the answer is quite simply ;Sorry you have no right to'! Fact and full stop. Never mind the buzzocks about keeping things sweet, they don't need to look at any thing unless it is over 8 feet high from YOUR' garden ground.
Roland Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 Remember when they complained about my goats ... long story short I was assure I would be ok for permission... applied and it was refused. So I thought that if I hadn't applied... any way these people that complained weren't even in my street like. So when I decide I'd keep pigeons I have a quiet word in their ears... like 'A up mate, i know you won't, but if you ever here any one moaning or complaining about the pigeons I'm having in my ole goat shed... let us know mae, be adrink in it for yer. I know you don't care, but I'll sort them, their windows and cars out good and proper, golly, - with a evil laugh - I look forward to sort the balambs out... golly I doubt if they ever will go work again, ever junkie in the nieghbourhood with be queing up to have a go ... golly what they would do for a cheap fix ... Still keep yer ears open mate, I'll see you alright'. All nieghbours saw me chating to their nieghbours, and you know what, never a peep, not a sausage, even a little dickie bird from anyone.
peterpau Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 Council knockeed on our door when we moved in, looked out the back door said they're not too near buildings, and went away happy, never heard any moor
crazy pigeon boy Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 i asked my neighbours and they was fine with the idea her grandad and ex husband both kept pigeons so she was fine

You've put that up before, Roland, but where does it all stop? Nothing to do with pigeons but I'd neighbours bricking my windows and it got to the stage where I asked my mate for his shotgun - and if he'd given me it I'd have put their windows out - for good. > Not so long ago a neighbour 'pigeon' dispute ended up with neighbour shot dead and fancier in prison. Better ways to go, surely.
ALF Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 i asked my neighbours and they was fine with the idea her grandad and ex husband both kept pigeons so she was fine Bit of luck there then eh ;)
DOVEScot Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 I'm always getting complaints from neighbours, luckily the council are sick of their petty complaints, I'm on first name terms with council staff. It was a shell when I bought it, the old dear previously was 95 when she croaked so was everybody else Applied for planning and got it for renovations, despite all immeadiate neighbours being written to by planning and no objections raised, they started to complain once I started building. Since I move in with the dan clan everyone else has moved out ;D ;D ;D ;D But I still try to keep it reasonable incase a poopchute starts on Monday
Dave A Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 my neighbous dont seam to mind em, the one nehind the loft is happy as her garden is now closed in and no one can see in it, the other ones sit outside and watch them flying out and have said they like to hear them cooing early morning but both neighbors are retired and are at leat 40 years older then me so must now people in the past thet have kept them i started with an 8 foot shed but it is now 31 foot but the main aim is to keep it clean and tidy then there is nothing to complain about apart from the birds sitting on their roofs which i have been lucky with as they dont
barlbylofts Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 people around my eara are good with my birds they call me the bird man lol, i clean my birds every day and while i in there leave the doors open so they can see what im doing a good proper clean and they always say that i take good care of my birds, if they can see this then they normaly ok with things. mark barlbylofts
me Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 Hi Has anybody ever had any problems from their neighbours about their pigeons. Neighbours being worried about disease, vermin and mess. Just thought of this problem. Do neighbours who decide to get 2 or 3 cats ask the people who live roundabout what they think? You're right NAW! And you can bet your bottom dollar before long they will be sheeting all over your garden. Come to think of it neighbours are like moderators never consistent enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Roland Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Not mine mucker, ahve a legal electric fence... Mate has a cracker too, runs of a NINE volt batter, and goes around his small holding.
