nutverlal Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 Hi there A nice, pretty looking hen grizzle racer pigeon, still with the rubber ring on, someone had caught it and sold it for the chop/pot. My friend rescued the racer pigeon from the local petshop for £3.00, because it was nice looking and did not desired the faith of the chop. I traced the owner who does not even remember losing him. Arranged collection for today and dropped of the pigeon to them and guess what? Just a thank you and was not offered the purchase price? This was not fair and was unjust. No wonder all strays that are found and not being returned and yet being sold for one pound for the chop. How many birds have ended this way? Never mind we shall continue with the good deeds and this is what true birds flyers and fanciers do. Thnaks
Roland Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 Yes, and I still get peeved of with many fanciers' total regard for us when we report their' birds, especially when a member of the public is involved. They make you feel like your a pest and want omething better to do. But I just feel that they are the down side of this hobby, which every other hobby must have.

kev01293 Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 ive got 2 agree with u guys i get alot of strays in and most (not all) just dont want 2 send for them they usually ask me to chuck them up the next morning (but most return) and when i then call them back they usually offer 2 transfer it over to me as they dont want it i recently had one fancier ask me to do something that i wont repeat on here so i reluctantly agreed to keep the pigeon and its still in my loft today but saying that some fanciers are pleased to know where their lost birds get to and are only too pleased to send for them but they are in the minority in my experience kev
DOVEScot Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 We got a bird in contacted the rpra, the last registered owner from wiltshire phoned and said he would pass on our details to new owner. New owner phoned said his son was coming to Scotland at w/e as he had a holiday cottage here and would pick it up......never appeared Phoned owner and found out the twats son had a cottage on the north west coast of scotland, he was made aware at the time he phoned that we stay on the east coast of scotland, said he would get back to us but to date never has, we reported the bird on 2/5/07 The pigeon is not allowed liberty as stated by the rpra but how long do you wait
frank-123 Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 get back in touch with the rpra when i report a bird i ask the owner do you want your bird back or will i look after it for you as i know how expensive it is to get them home so the choice is there's if someone does want it back and doesnt make an effort to get it home then i would report him/her
Guest Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 when ive had strays in, the owners have been very greatful, some have even asked do they owe me anything for the food. the answer is always no. i like to think that my birds will be looked after by somone who cares about them should they be lost. the thought of one of my birds ending up in a pet shop or even given the chop is so horrible. i think these people need naming and shaming . > > >
