frank-123 Posted June 3, 2007 Author Report Posted June 3, 2007 were they raced well as young birds Bart lad and have they been coming well up to this week? out to scotch corner as ybs this year every second race one bird scored 2nd club 38th open 8600 birds from hexham mostly middle of the results most weeks 2nd 9th and 10th club from leicester
Guest Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 I think it depends on what you planned to achieve. Lots of Scottish fanciers expect their yearlings to do the coast race and some the channel too. ;D before I lost most my yearlings under 200 miles ;D I wanted all of mine to go to Newbury and Maidstone Nationals - might get one to Maidstone but that's all. So depends on what you feel you have achieved - if you feel your birds have performed and / or done enough, any point in keeping them going?

JADE Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 its your call...we`ve all been there...thats what makes the game so fascinating...i think i would send maybe 3 or 4 if weather looks ok but thats cos i like to go to every race. i would be wary of sending them to maidstone if your fed is going with snfc as the birds will get well split up. good luck
frank-123 Posted June 3, 2007 Author Report Posted June 3, 2007 do you get somebody to tell u when to go to the toilet, naw well ;D guess we all got shown how to do the toilet as iam learning the pigeons i ask old codgers like you for advice thanks for all your help [face=Verdana]auld git[/face]

me Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 out to scotch corner as ybs this year every second race one bird scored 2nd club 38th open 8600 birds from hexham mostly middle of the results most weeks 2nd 9th and 10th club from leicester Alwas disappointing when a "good" team of yearlings takes a "battering" like that but "peggy" might be on the money if it was a really fast race and the team was really fit they could have been in Aberdeen before they knew it! Change in the wind and I would lay money on a few turning up! Bottom line if you are trying to build a team be very careful with them anything you really fancy keep it at home something else will come "bouncing " into condition to take the sponsors money for Maidstone if you are lucky maybe even something that turns up tomorrow and that would really annoy Tammy into the bargain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 Bart I would personally look at the cocks you have left and determine which of the ones that are left need another year to develop, some cocks and hens for that matter at this time of the season change dramatically and start to look more like mature 2 year olds. Have a look at them on Thursday morning and pick out the ones that are jumping out at you and telling you to send them whether that be 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 or 8 for that matter. Remember Frank it,s a long time to next season and the reason we keep Racing pigeons is to win with them. Great point Square Peg about Yearlings not having the experience to tackle such a fast race as, we had the same problem this week at Leicester losing 3 yearling cocks that have won races for us this year that were sent in top condition. Cheers Gareth
frank-123 Posted June 4, 2007 Author Report Posted June 4, 2007 thanks for your advice and thoughts i will leave it to thursday to see what iam going to do
