blackjack Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 This time it looks better its a beef finishing herd nothing in or out recently full movements ban nationwide of cattle, sheep ,pigs and goats and horses.Horse racing maybe affected if you live within 10km i think you must keep all birds in. Check with MAFF a present 3 cattle tested ALL positive lets hope they have got it in time i also assisted slaughtering last time i hope my human killer does not have to be used this time.
frank-123 Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 plenty farmers done well out of the last outbreak rose like the one who had his sheep valued on the monday moved his whole flock to his brothers field on the tuesday and were valued again or the farmer who could not sell his sheep at market the goverment bought the lot at a great price i know a lot of farmers lost whole generations of breeding but a lot were over the moon
Guest Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 Don't think pigeons are considered susceptible animals as far as Foot & Mouth disease is concerned. In my opinion it's our transporter and trainer vehicles that'll need to be watched tho, that these don't go up farm tracks or into farmer's fields, especially within the zones. People and vehicles are more likely to spread the virus than pigeons. Factsheet at:- http://www.defra.gov.uk/footandmouth/pdf/factsheet3.pdf
Pompey Mick Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 Latest from the RPRA: Foot and Mouth Disease confirmed in cattle, in Surrey Posted 2256 hrs 3 August 2007 Following an investigation of suspected vesicular disease by Animal Health on a holding near Guildford in Surrey, laboratory results have this evening indicated that the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) virus is present in samples from cattle on the premises. On the basis of the initial laboratory results Debby Reynolds, UK Chief Veterinary Officer has confirmed Foot and Mouth Disease. In accordance with the legislation and contingency planning arrangements all the cattle on the premises will be culled. A Protection Zone of three kilometres radius and a Surveillance Zone of 10 kilometres has been placed around the premises, and a GB wide national movement ban of all ruminants and pigs has been imposed. This FMD outbreak has no immediate implications for pigeon racing in the UK. Racing and training carries on as normal unless and until we are advised to the contrary. Peter Bryant General Manager

jimmy white Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 good to see peter bryant and the rpra on the ball. i trust other members will appreciate the effort. i do not see any other organisations puttig out any response. quite agree johno, peter bryant well on the ball......, feel sorry for farmers this year [for a change] between rotten summer ,avian flu, and now foot and mouth theive had it rough, but no doubt theyll recoup cash ,,,,,and we will pay ??at the various agricultural shows going on at this time of the year restrictions have been put in order, no cows calfs etc ,,, just hope the public are made fully aware that this has nothing to do with bird flu, or more to the point,,,,pigeons
