Pompey Mick Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 Sorry I didn't see the thread earlier Pigeonpete, how did the race go? Been overcast most of the day with a strong Norrthely wind. If you need any further weather updates for the Portsmouth area try this site for live webcam pictures of Portsmouth Harbour looking North towards Fareham. http://www.harboureye.co.uk/ Also this is an amateur Weather site 6mls North of Fareham http://www.clanfieldweather.co.uk/index.html It has a webcam film of todays weather on it, not much sun.
Fair Play Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 North of Glasgow (lower Clyde) - very hot last three days poor kids back at school, but maybe set up for a good days racing at the weekend 8) 8)
pigeonpete Posted August 22, 2007 Author Report Posted August 22, 2007 thanks for the replys, was a distaster to say the least :o 90 odd members sent 180 odd birds in this specialist 2 bird club!! some of the best flyers in the north west :-/ were liberated at 1pm, and as far as i know by race finish last night 10pm there were only 4 yes 4 galant ybs that had made it home, think the winner was timed at 18.45 flying 167 miles thats about 850 ypm!! havent got a clue what happened, everyone has sent there best 2 ybs?? any ideas anyone? i know it was a strong north wind but thats just crazy!! some of the older guys i have spoke to have never know any thing like it!! and no none of mine are home as yet!! doubt i will see them again now, strong north wind again today!! :'( arrrh well the joys of pigeon racing hey ;D
Pompey Mick Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 The weather here Tuesday was very poor, clear & dry but total cloud with a very strong Northerly wind and cold with it. It would be no surprise to me that you had an extremely testing race. The conditions were worse than when the NW Combine had their difficult race in May with a colder & stronger wind. I trained from Bournemouth 35 mls west of me and my birds struggled with a side wind, and the weather was much brighter there with short breaks of sunshine. I hope you get some birds work through but its been windier today with rain showers.
mark Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 on the same tuesday we took 10 ybs to salisbury market 30 miles there was miles between them coming home.
Brian Smith Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 There ended up 6 birds home won in Burtonwood Warrington at 7.03 that's 6hours 3 min.
