kev01293 Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 hi paul if u are looking to buy a cheap loft why dont u buy a used garden shed from your local papers and convert it to a pigeon loft,u can get some really good sheds in good condition, of all shapes and sizes. kev
RoryTheRed Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 I converted my 8x 6 garden shed and i'm well pleased with it. Many generous fanciers helped with birds, training etc...i bought a second hand quartz benzing from Pigeon Network for 55 pounds which was a bargain and i've remember to past the good deeds on with giving all my not wanted books, pc games, PS games, clothes etc to charity shops, the more you give without thinking of a return seems to repay you back with more.
Guest Paulo Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 Paul just got a dvd by John Halstead Hints, tips and advice from Murray Mills have a watch of that John shows you his lofts and a lot of them are just converted garden sheds and are totally fit for purpose.
Pompey Mick Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 I don't know if you see my post on the Ebay site, but there's a job lot of pigeon gear available, Ideal for someone like you starting from scratch, as for lofts one of my best ever YB seasons was racing to a 6' X4' converted garden shed. The Ebay seller is in the pigeon category, he's at rainham essex and the starting bid is £40.00 (no bids yet), There's 9 days to go.
Roland Posted October 8, 2006 Report Posted October 8, 2006 I believe any demolition site has - if you're early enough - has great Mature timber, flooring etc. and most only want a drink if your going to take it away. First 4 lofts of mine were all like that. Last two, before this one, was a lot of wood... new.

How did you alter it, Rory? This really interests me, as I'm moving to a house with a bigger backyard but I'm still in the city, want only a couple of pigeons, and don't want to go overboard with a big loft. Jim

RoryTheRed Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 Missed the replies, sorry. Took out the middle pane of glass ( three panes in my shed ) and placed a sputnik there, left a 3inch gap above for more airflow. Fitted two large louvre vents at ground level beneath sputnik; also added two more vents either side of apex roof for bad air to escape. Used old work planks for nest boxes. Bought some bubblewrap and covered walls and roof for heat retention. Made a partition for splitting of old birds and ybs recently, will use when ybs are weaned. Will get my daughter to take some pics.
Jim McArthur Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 What's a "sputnik"? (Other than a Soviet space craft!) ;D Jim
pigeonscout Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 Make a stack of nest boxes out of empty potato crisp boxes on top off one another then held with duck tape change after ever round. ps you must put news papers in bottom of boxes so as you can keep them clean.
