  1. What's a "sputnik"? (Other than a Soviet space craft!) ;D Jim
  2. Yer right there, Ronnie! I notice there are already lots of pigeons flying around there, also. I reckon that could be both good and bad: good in that my neighbors aren't likely to notice a few more additions! ;D Bad in that mine might try to decamp with the ones already there, or those try to move in with mine. Jim
  3. Not so easy here post-Katrina, I'm afraid. :'( But, good news for me is that we finally closed on our new house! I will have a big and beautiful back yard, and enough space for some pigeons! We'll be moving over the next few weeks. Jim
  4. On the third attempt, we finally went to Act of Sale on our new house. This means that I will finally have a real back yard, and will finally be able to get some pigeons in the coming year! Jim
  5. But she's improving, and with a bit more practice on her part, you haven't a chance! ;D Jim
  6. I'll give it a look, Velo, and thanks! I reckon we can use Greyhound. Amtrak comes through New Orleans: does it go through Amarillo? I'll check out yer site. Must get to bed now! Jim
  7. Velo, I live in New Orleans, Louisiana, and could take you up on your offer when my new house is ready! We are scheduled for Act of Sale (Closing) on December 19, and plan to move from our present location as soon as we can, after Christmas. We will have a big backyard and a porch that we want to screen in. Looks as though I might be ready for pigeons about the time yours would be ready! Where are you located? Jim
  8. I would want something that flies around a bit, but that WON'T "fly away and not return". Jim
  9. Some REALLY good RACING pigeons might make it! ;D Jim
  10. That does sound like what I plan to do, Samantha! I take it they won't interbreed - or breed at all - in such close quarters? Jim
  11. Velo, by a "kitbox", do you mean that is their regular home? Sounds crowded, but what do I know, I'm not a pigeon keeper (yet). It must be cute having that little guy in the living room! I have a chihuahua and three cats, so couldn't do that. Will just two rollers perform if you toss them from their loft? Jim
  12. I want to get started in pigeons but don't know with what kind. I won't have the time or space for but a couple of pigeons, and at this point at least, don't plan to race them. I want a couple of pigeons in a small and simple loft in the backyard: they will basically be pets, but I don't want them permanently confined: I want them to fly for exercise, even if it's only to toss them in the air from next to the loft and let them circle the yard. Would fancies fill the bill, do you think? Any recommendations as to type? Jim
  13. You're smart, Tim. Most people have no idea of the dangerous range of a .22. A strong pellet gun will get the job down, while not posing a risk to everyone/thing else in the area. Jim
  14. Looks asthough she's giving them a talking-to! Jim
  15. How did you alter it, Rory? This really interests me, as I'm moving to a house with a bigger backyard but I'm still in the city, want only a couple of pigeons, and don't want to go overboard with a big loft. Jim
  16. I agree, it wouldn't be a good idea to start bringing ferals in with your bred racers. Does anyone on the list, though, have experience with just starting with a captured commie or two, and using them as your racers / homers? I'm not really planning on doing this - I figure that the ferals are entitled to live the life they're used to. I'm just curoius. ??) Jim
  17. That is a really good question, Tim. Has anyone else on the list tried common pigeons, alone, to see if they would home? Jim
