Guest Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 I've never been a Sky person, don't like the near monopoly they have already on sports. My answer would be no.
retired Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 I've never been a Sky person, don't like the near monopoly they have already on sports. My answer would be no. Have to agree Bruno for exactly the same reason, i feel you pay for the system that should be all one monthly payment for all the channels and programmes. I feel anyway to promote the sport is for the good, i remember geordie racer from being a small kid and i feel it played some part of influencing my participation in the best hobby in the world but themdays thre was no PS3 and internet
EAGLEOWL Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 I've never been a Sky person, don't like the near monopoly they have already on sports. My answer would be no. sky is rubbish just full of old repeats, look at the sport you think you got the package then charge you etc. maybe they could do another hatchet job like the million dollar race and make us look right fools hold on i have not fed the kids for six months to enter a pigeon race, but found it easier this way keeps the kids fitter ,but i just entered me bird in the race at the cost of six grand no thanks
Guest Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 hope this thread dont turn into sky anti haters lol ;D ;D ;sky wasjust an example..it could be on any channel :)and i meant a programme run by pigeon men about the sport ..not a documentary type programme,i was thinking of a programme with loft visits/results in regions etc...nothing to do like the nichols programme was about.
thunderboult Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 yes i would, as it would give valuable publicity to this ailing sport of ours and is more likely to attract people in than the current situation .i think it would be good if they had a programme once a week(in season) focusing on national racing ,presented by pigeon folk.

Guest Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Like your second question better than your first! ;D First difficulty would be getting over regionalisation of TV, if we could get a programme out over all regions, big step forward. Think if one programme could be dedicated to the week before a big race, and show work that individual fanciers put into getting their birds ready for the big one; then marking night; liberation; the wait at home & timing the bird; clcok meeting; the result. I'm sure the general public would find that interesting; got to steer clear of run-of the mill watching-paint-dry types of programmes - celluloid BHW results pages. :X
Ronnie Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Bloody hell yes. Imagine tuning in on saturday and getting a lay down on wind conditions at the liberation and projected routes the birds would take.Maybe spotter camera's along the way to follow the main batch That betting bloke from channel four doing all the latest odd's on what loft would win the average's and what bird would be best. A tour around lofts through the week on a build up to a big race. Then the telly would go off around half hour before the winners was expected till an hour afterwards then a big update on who came where with what and maybe a chat with the section winners. How can you not want this to happen? I pay 10 quid a month for satanta as well as the sky package i would gladly lose one or the other for a dedicated pigeon channel.
jimmy white Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 not much of a telly man myself , but think i would enjoy the likes of this,,,,,,remember you can get pigeon radio live on your computer from america,
Fair Play Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Sky is like buying a pigeon you pay for the bird and then they charge you for the feathers one by one

Roland Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 No.... because we can't afford the risk that means birds will be liberated to accomondate their TV spaces etc. when they should never be released. Has happen too often that! and realistically ONCE is too much!
ticeye Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 pigeon fanciers might pay for this channel but i can not see the general public doing so would be better if the sports programes on bbc and itv feature items regarding our hobby remember back in the sixties bbc sportnight showing the masserella stud and there was a boost in membership into the local clubs

Has happen too often that! and realistically ONCE is too much! Too true, just look at football, it used to be Wednesday and Saturday religiously, games are now played to suit screening times, and nothing else considered
Guest Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 No,only have 4 channels and I don't really watch them

ALF Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 No,only have 4 channels and I don't really watch them THATS COS YER TOO TIGHT TO PAY FOR ANYMARE ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Roland Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 No, remember well just a few short years ago when sky needed the birds up from France, and everyone groaned... was a terrible smash and Sky losted interest immediately/.... what did we gain! Nothing if only a lesson, and that was truely impressed upon one ... or was it! Can't believe how short memories are when convienient ...
homebird Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 PIGEON PIE IN THE SKY ,grabing the the publics interest is the key to any sucssesful tv.Viewing figures are what they are interested in.If the public could win money on betting on a number of races culminnating in a big pool like the irish sweepstake was to horse racing that would get the general public on board ,bookmakers find they could make money that gets the money men on board,Back ground information on the birds the sport and breeding, that drags in the people from pigeon racing. This intern brings in people that may not normaly have an idea what pigeon racing is all about as new recruits.Selling the sport this way for some would be the way forward but for others it would detract from the fun pastime that it is.YES IT WOULD BE NICE TO SE SOMETHING ON MAIN STREEM TV.

I dont think it would ruin the fun passtime as the club's would still go on as normal it would only be the big organisations such as the national or the international race's. I also think if it was to work you would need pigeon men advising the producers and pigeon men who are for the pigeons not for the money. That way there would be no liberations just to fit in with the time schedule if the weather was bad.
thunderboult Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 if this programme was to get on 1 of the sky sport channels you would'nt have to pay for just that programme it would come as a package with other sports making it more attractive to other sport lovers
