Hi

Very disappointed in the 2008 race program just for you Vincent

Old birds starting 19/04/08

Longtown     No site available

Penrith        No site available

Appleby       Not a registered RPRA site

Lancaster    No site available

Leyland       No site available

Uttoxeter    ok

Worcester    ok

Cheltenham  ok

Dorchester     Not RPRA site

Sartilly          No longer a French site

Young Birds are

2 Longtowns

2 Penriths

Lancaster

Leyland

Once again we have a club Dalzell proposing a race program with no homework being done

2004 was the last time we were on this route and by my returns this should have been the last

Should be a rule that any club or individual that proposes any race program must state the lid site , Rpra no and where our drivers have toilet facilities

Cheers

Following what you posted on the non-availability of 90% of race sites proposed in the motion, wondered if motion can still stand as the proposed race programme cannot be implemented?

Surely another meeting must be called on it?

Hi bruno

The president might do that when he has all the facts or wait until the AGM

To be fair there are some alternatives Sartilly to Picaville , Dorchester to Blandford Forum but my point is that people go to meetings and propose something with no accountability They leave other people to sort out the mess

Cheers

Not like you Alex to be doing some sh** stirring , you , like everybody else at the meeting knew the racepoints proposed were not written in stone and the programme was only passed in principle and if it was found that any of the lib sites were unavailable an alternative would be implemented at or around the same distance, but I do agree with you 100% about clubs or members bringing to a meeting a proposed programme which has not been checked out,it just makes a complete mockery of all the men attending, well that in itself is a joke because it was a shambolic attendance with about 60 men from over 500 attending, the same thing happened last year when incompetant folk put in a programme which had not been checked but had been guaranteed that all sites were available, I had a few disputes last year with the proposers last year because I made 2 phone calls last year and found out 3 of the proposed sites were no use and this year after the meeting I had a few pm's asking me why I was not putting up the racepoints, well the reason is now obvious because after last years meeting I posted the programme up, was changing it after a few days , lost count of the times I had to change it and there was no way I was putting it on this time because I knew within an hour of getting home the first 3 points were no use and just thought here we  f-----g  go again,as this has happened 2 years in a row now I think something should be made clear about anybody bringing a full race programme to be implemented should have , as you say, checked out the availability of what they have proposed, and this years is far worse than last years, it is practically a full programme to re do , we would have been better off after deciding the east or west route just putting forward the distances we want the birds to fly from and then ask the secretary and president to find sites at the appropriate distances, that's what is going to happen now anyway, two years in a row a piece of paper has been handed in that is only fit for the toilet, if whoever in the future intends to bring in a complete programme maybe they should at least contact the SHU or RPRA  and check , it was a good thing that the President,Vince Hendry did say that if any sites were not usable and alternative in or around the same distance would be used, but again agree with you Alex they leave the meeting and the mess has to be sorted out by other folk, this will maybe make people think twice about attending  they will be wondering what is the point of attending a meeting when you vote on a programme that is absolutely no use, should be an interesting AGM in a few weeks time but somehow I think this will have a far better turn out.

IS THIS THREAD NOT ABOUT THE LANARKSHIRE RACE PROGRAMME

Quite right Sammy, but it now seems to be more to do with opinions on Lanarkshire's decision to go west coast rather than the actual race programme which we've been told is subject to change .

Quite happy to split it up if you feel that necessary, but given that another new thread on the proposed program seems likely its maybe a pointless exercise ... what you think?

Hi bruno

The meeting held on the 13/10/07 was the AGM for the race program

So we ARE going down the west route

I said there are a number of lib sites no longer available and should no alternatives be found the president could hold another meeting to discus what to do

At the meeting a democratic vote was taken Wings 04 said the vote was 33 to 13

for the west route I heard it was 42 to 14 so the people who wanted status quo ie

the east route were well beaten

The change was certainly not proposed for the sake of the birds but for fanciers who for whatever reason are dissatisfied with racing as it is

It is often an easy excuse to blame other factors than to look within

If you want to split the thread its ok with me

Cheers

Moved part of this thread into new thread 'East vs West route into Scotland' on General Pigeon Board.

It would have been good to hear the views of other Lanarkshire fed members on what they think and any reservations they may have. Was the change because of hawks, bad race route, poor weather horrendous bird losses or did they just vote for change .Homer49 put the post up for discussion (Ithink) or was it a statement of fact come on Fed members what do you think you have set the tone and other Feds may follow you down that route (safety in nos).

Maybe worthwhile consulting your Midland colleagues on why even they don't go to Lancaster. Think I posted on that one a year or so back.

Same dilemna for me. Don't fancy the switch. Lost 18 out of 30 OB racers on west coast  route, and 7 of the 12 I have left are untested because of hawk and strike injuries. Lost 5 OBs between Garstang and Leyland races too.

Midland BHW mannie is a bit of a gem. Said they go to Garstang instead of Lancaster because Lancaster has the highest hawk concentrations on the route.

On my map, Garstang is south of Lancaster and we are north of Lancaster.  Is it a case of 'beam me up Scottie' to get the birds safely past Lancaster? Sprinkled with fairy dust perhaps? Liberated while the hawks are having a nap? Divert their attention with a special showing of 'Valiant' on a big screen?

And safely through Lancaster - what's the score for Cumbria and SW Scotland? Er, Hawks 2 ... Doos 0.

But it's nice to start right back at the beginning again every year, racing yearlings and youngbirds, innit?

And don't be too sure that the west coast isn't on the agenda again for next year. 3000 pigeons sacrificed is a fair price to pay for those who think others steal half-a-yard 'overfly' from them on the east coast.

Now maybe if they got better doos that could fly half-a-yard faster......

Your spot on Alf, McAloney would win flying from anywhere. He is one of Europes best and the quicker people appreciate that the better. As you know , we ( THE MIDLAND FED ) have been flying down the west route for a few years now and every year we get hammered with hawks.I dont think we will be going that way this year, as the losses have finally taken their toll. I cannot believe Lanarkshire flying down the west.ITS MENTAL
