Wondered what type of work you were looking for?

Heavy industry is all but gone in Scotland, and the days of factories employing thousands are long gone. Aberdeen is about the most industrial city left in Scotland now, servicing the north sea oil fields. House prices there are collossal though, my sister in law lives well out in Ballater [Royal Deeside] and you are talking about anything up to £350,000 there for 4 bedroom detached, 2 bathrooms, double garage, plus 4 hours a day commuting by car. [ex-brother in law is in Nigeria?, oil industry].

We have a lot of 'service' industries, nearer the Central Belt, the big banks with office blocks of hundreds of workers based around the main cities like Dundee, Edinburgh & Glasgow. Again the price of houses are higher the nearer the cities you go, but maybes  up to £180,000 average further out.

You have better public transport links in the Central belt too, frequent trains and buses, maybe commuting 2 hours a day? Edinburgh is perhaps the most prosperous with the Parliament and Scottish Executive [civil service arm of the Scottish government] based there, but again like Aberdeen, nobody can afford to buy houses there.

Think there are more work Opportunities in England, but its full of English,  ;D and I'll let them tell you of the opportunities and prices etc you may find there.

Yep ... and just remember how bad it was under thatcher, and the rest of the Tories.... Certainly apt when it was stated 'Never have so many given so much to so few'!

Then after closing Mines etc. Steel works for her Matey Benefactors' with their over seas investment, and given all the wealth away they sold all the family jewalry  - which belonged to the 'People' and I'm still waiting for my share of the dosh ' to pay herslf out of trouble!

By heckers like it makes  one wonder about all the dispicable, under handed and oft probable untruthfullness of this goverment, just how bad it was before that these are still a clas above that shower, for in honesty nowhere near as bad as them charlentans!

Agree with you on Thatcher years, Roland. My previous post pointed out the current lack of heavy industry in Scotland. Only growth industry up here during her time was Landscaping, and bulldozer was King.

Then there were the sunrise industry wot went east 20 years later to the countries nearer that sun rise  ;D like India.

Oh and invented a new Uk election winning strategy - start a war in a far off place.

Sir you would be much better staying in Iceland this country is dirty thier is alot of hidden unemployment housing is very expensive and we are taxed heavily. You cannot speak your mind without the liberals whinging and are goverment is highly intrusive into your private life, We also have alot of intrusive laws state schooling on the whole is poor you would need a Catholic school or good grammar .Language teaching is a national disgrace they start them here at 11!!!!!!!!!!!! state school disipline here is also laughable. No sir stay in Iceland i have visited your country good schools etc etc ,clean lo unemployment and low crime and good discipline everything we are losing due to political correctness and poor politicians.

im english born and bred but cant wait to retire (quite a way off) so i can get the hell away from the uk !

this may be controversal but i would say give england a wide birth. its losing its identity and culture , its full of imigrannts that , unlike you , dont want to work but are happy to claim benefits. the crime is rising and we have no detterents. the jails are full and judges are scared of putting people in prison because there is no room !

iceland looks a much better deal from where im standing,

sorry to be such a kill joy.

regards and good luck.

So, moving to the U.K. is obviusly not a good idea, sounds like you guys are unhappy about many things in your country, maybe you should all move to Iceland. Here we get to pay about 1 pound per liter of car fuel and 80% of that is tax.And like i said before it is like that about many things and at the end of the month most of my money has gone to some sort of taxing.
