Personally I get fed up of readers writing "just starting up " have supplied several fanciers in the past only to find out that they had been flying for years and used it as a gimmick at this time of year to get cheap or birds for nothing think it is despicable will never do it again. ??) ??) ??)

gangster I am not being funny mate but a few weeks ago a new starter on here had 6 pairs (good pedigrees) of me for nought, and now doesn't even log on here. Hasn't even transferred the birds - heard nothing.

I am all for helping out new starters as is the majority of chaps on here, but I think it would be better to introduce yourself on here and start getting involved in the banter and making yourself known. Rather than the first post being "hello I need birds, who can help".

I am not saying he is not genuine but in light of the coxy situation there is nothing to say he is not just logging on periodically as different users asking for birds then discarding the user name.

Due to what happened to us with coxy, sadly we suspect everybody, always wondering when the bold coxy is going to reappear, (everybody just logging on for the first time trying to get birds). When we offer newbies new birds, as soon as we ask for their details to send the birds, we generally never hear from them again except genuine fanciers the like of brianm, who we gave some free birds too and is still on the site joining in.

You let me have a nice pair of jansen young uns as well which I'm very appreciative of. Crossing them in with some Ponderosa Silver Shadow Van loons this year.

Hi mate never got the peds prob those fools at royal mail. Birds are doing great never got a chance to breed off them last year as brought a lot of YB's in and with them being nestmates didn't want to pair them together. So went shopping for some stcok birds and got the van loons.

The hen is a really nice red grizzle and the cock has turned out to be a belter as well will let you know how I get on with the yb's. Had a good first season with the yb's got my clock read off for all the first half of the races and won a fourth with a gaby vandebeele cock against 440 birds in the club. Missed out on a fed postion by two places with a busschaert hen she was 13th fed but unforturely we only have 10 postitions 1500 birds flying that race.

Tailed off the last half of the programme due to birds not being darkness pigeons. Looking forward to my first old bird season got plenty of yearlings to race 12 cocks and 25 hens.

I only started up this year and did not want to get free birds from anyone. I think if you want to do the sport then you should be able to support yourself to do it. Not saying its a bad thing asking for free birds. Just not me. Although I was given freebies and some people did help me out with cheaper birds, I did not ask for it but I did appreciate it. I was more than willing to pay for the birds as I knew what I was getting myself into. Dont mean to offend anyone. ;D ;D

i can see were you are coming from darren and  do see everybodys point of view but i just got a good feeling about this guy, plus ive family and a few friends near him so it would not be hard 2 check him out...i appreciate the input but id still like to believe people...

An age old problem with the internet as anyone can be who they want to be. Maybe these fanciers should offer a bit more info on themselves or other fanciers they know.

Also depends on their age, like someone said if they are adult its not really the right attitude to ask for freebies when starting out, i think its a cheek actually, and sure to lead to disappointment.

Young "genuine" new starters are a different case and should be helped along.

as most of you know would gladly help any 1 out, as last year i gave away over 60 ybs for people to test for me, out of the 15 fanciers only about 7 even contacted me to say thank you!!, they could have said they were crap, which would have done me more good than nowt attall, i would gladly give birds to people i know were genuine, just a shame theres a few who spoil it for there own gain!! :-/

New to the site and new to pigeons, I recently posted messages on the forum seeking adviice on starting up. Iwould like to thank everyone who replied to my questions especially Bobthegas, crookey1965 and Okitsme.

I'm now in the process off getting my loft up and running to race young birds in 2008. :) :) :)

Finding this forum has opened the door into the world of the Pigeon and one day maybe I will be giving advice to a NEW STARTER?

CHEERS, STUART.

if ur gonna give birds away ,i feel the best way to find out if the person is a new starter is to enquire if it would be ok to phone his/her club sec if they have one,,they wont mind if they are genuine, if they dont wish too..then they can go elsewhere and find birds free from someone else!..simple init!!..paul :P:) :) :)

I'v decided to have a go at racing pigeons and never expected to be offered free birds, but I was! I didn't ask, some kind people however took time to PM me and offer me help.

I think it's a shame if people are practically scamming people out of pigeons because people may then be reluctant to help genuine new comers and to be offered some birds to start up with is such a great help! Pigeons are expensive with Amtrak ontop.

you had a good idea earlier on pete when you were advertising a pair of birds for sale and you ended up giving them to the highest bidder instead of selling them, fanciers are more inclined to give birds free if they have maybe been offered money to purchase them but it does make you wary of folk who come on and ask for free birds with their first post

im new to this sport (or i should now say hobby, as its not classed as sport :-/) also to this site. i came accross the site 1 day, and found it had usefull information. so thought it would benefit my lack of knowledge. i had 4 or 5 birds at the time due to losing 13 ybs i had bought. i was offered some latebreds off a kind gentleman, who also has given me great advice. ive also been gifted some birds to breed from and ive bought some to breed from. the  problem most new comers may face is, if your new, how do you know what birds to buy? you could keep buying rubbish, if like me you dont know what your looking for. so people who offer you birds make it a lot easier for the ones who are new and dont know much about this hobby

so what about those not in a club..i like to read the comments on the site and like the advise.. i am not a youngster nor do i ask for free birds.. yet i am just starting up i now have several birds...bought and paid for..how are you going to find out who is genuine and who is not..i still have a lot of things to find out on the sport..dont think all new people to the sport are on the scrounge for birds..

I joined the forum a couple of weeks ago and although i haven't posted other than looking for a breeder of white racers which are required for my grand daughter ...to purchase...( she already has names chosen for them ... Ice man - snow queen etc ) I have found the other posts to be very informative and look forward to joining in at a later date
