oldguy Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 who would you not buy birds from ? the reasons could include disease ridden flee bitten skinny feather plucked birds who qualify for their bus pass to get a lift home, who only a few days ago wandered about in the local supermarket carpark or just the seller who would sell the latter at top price while reassuring you about the top bird you are purchasing , oh and not forgetting the dazzling false pedigree printed off on an ageing cobweb covered computer Kev
carlsberg Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 i try not to buy pigeons full stop , the best birds in my loft were all gift birds from eg. top local fanciers , friends and even fanciers that breed you a dozen or so birds just for reporting there strays. my father even had 8 pairs of busschaert stock birds given to him from a fancier to whom he had reported a dead stray ,so it goes to prove you dont have to fork out money for birds when there are still GENUINE FANCIERS out there
jimmy_bulger Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 that's the beuty about this site you can get access to top bloodlines sprint or distance from across the uk and europe at the right price. jimmy
GHQ Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 That the best thing about this sport thier always somebody to step up and help someone thats just getting started. My best birds were given to me buy one of our club members
Guest spin cycle Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 couldn't agree more.gift birds are the best partic. for newbies.generally people are very generous they won 't give you rubbish because they take pleasure[not money] from seeing you do well.if you have to buy , buy a couple of stock pairs from GENUINE dispersal sale and breed your own.
p charlton Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 true other hobies you get nowt given that my veiw and ive had lots of hobies
Guest Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 No one is ever going to sell you their best birds and nine times out of ten what you've already got is better plus every time you buy in you risk bringing disease into your loft which especially at this time of year with most of us breeding just now is crazy, not worth the risk
Guest shadow Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 when I started many years ago most of the local fanciers gave nothing away out of 20 approach only one gave me a bird but once I had settled it . it won 3 races for me but dipped on the 4th race inland , the3 races it won were across the channel
jimmy white Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 i have [through the years] received many pigeons as presents , i have also bought pigeons, some for quite large ammount of money ,, in racing these birds have had good and bad in both ,, in my opinion , if you buy birds , just make sure of the fancier and the source . the bit that gets me is if the fancier pays say £100 for a pigeon , they automaticaly think its better than the free one,,,,,not neccesary true
Fair Play Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 Commercialism tends to be at the expense of quality not saying all birds are bad but the number of birds from the continent and the UK By the law of averages there "should" be a few good ones. On reading the postings from our members the quality of some of the birds at Blackpool seems to have been a bit suspect, dead birds, sick birds and generally poor quality in some cases. The auction sites post birds from famous lofts but on checking they have been brought in from other sources this in my humble opinion is just "PURE COMMERCIALISM" at the expense of the fancier (if you rise to the bait), ie famous name
Roland Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 Depends on reason for buying I guess. If for the 'Blood' then it can be like a skinny moth eaten sparrow looking hen birds, one that can hardly fly up to a perch! Blood breeds and crosses race, simple as that. I have some coloured ones cming soon. Yes they will be dual purpose, to please the nieghbours, and more importantly to race.
Roland Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 As for 'Who wouldn't you buy from ... well I'd be careful not to slander anyone, so in theory there is 'No One'... but we all know different!

Don't think I would buy a bird like that no matter what the bloodline was !!!!
