Guest Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 Terrible news, too lose a pigeon going for a gold award in that way is totally unbelievable for a pigeon that has achieved so much. :(

flighty hen Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 That happened in our loft, the stoat was killed but done real bad damgage in the loft, really gutted :'( :'(
Guest Freebird Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 Sorry to hear about your loss. I've just installed a mini electric fence hopefully to stop this happening. I think the winter months bring all these predators in search of an easy meal. As gamekeeper says, get a trap or something don't leave it to chance.
j.childs Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 I know what you are going through mate, when we started back up again in 2000 we borrowed a good pair of joe shore based stock birds, the little b*****d killed the cock plus 5 latebreds i had gifted to me.. I blame the little b*****d for my dads heart problems.. keep your chin up and don't pack the birds in you'd miss them
flighty hen Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 I agree don't pack the birds in you'll be sorry!
jimmy white Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 dont pack in,, as said b4 the ups and downs of pigeon keeping,, but a happening b4 was a freind of mine ex-kelso[ and ex game keeper] had family of weasels come through a missing notch in the wood at the back of his loft , took the heads of and killed umpteen pigeons ,, he fixed the loft and the problem
Fair Play Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 Tim - How did it manage to get in. I have a problem with the new neigbours cats (3) and have had to fit wire to the front when I lock them up in the evening
retired Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 Tim - How did it manage to get in. I have a problem with the new neigbours cats (3) and have had to fit wire to the front when I lock them up in the evening Tom - Feel free to borrow our cat trap - it has never failed yet - No cat problems here !!!!! Sorry about your situation Tim, a friend had a stoat in nearly every night for two weeks and it had a high percentage of the stock birds including some i had loaned him!
shotgun tim Posted November 4, 2008 Author Report Posted November 4, 2008 i have a hatch to let the stock into the aviary i let them out every morning it must have got in through there today,it ignored the stock cocks and went the full lenghth of my 40ft loft to the hen section and killed the 3 took there heads off,iv put one of the dead birds into a live trap just in caseanything is knocking about
cowman Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 as for cats anti freeze stops them ;D ;D ;D
The Navigator Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 It is always the same, whether it is a cat, or hawk or whatever, they seem to always take the best.
jimmy white Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 i wonder if it would help by keeping a ferret,, i have had them for many years ,, allthough, not everyones cup of tea they can be very tame and playfull ,, their scent glands produce a very strong smell i often" run" them under the loft , house etc, and havent [at least up to now] been bothered by stoats or weasels , they have killed rats , as i live fairly in the country , i have been called for,, with my ferrets , for that reason ,,just a thought
