Guest strapper Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 because of one thing and another last year , i kept the cocks with the hens all year....proved to be my best breeding season for a number of years.

smiler Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 iv a few things still to do will pair up around the 6th of dec and so looking forward too the new challenges
Guest strapper Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Hi Strapper. Did you just remove eggs or let them sit dummies. Thanks. i had already removed all nest bowls etc, then any eggs laid would be removed...which they didnt lay that many. maybe this was a one off dont know...but im gonna try it again this season, maybe it was a one off.
Guest Freebird Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Thanks. Possibly less stress on the birds keeping them together through winter. More contented etc. Then when you decide to start breeding not as frantic as re-introducing partners. Some cocks a bit O.T.T. with thier hens on pairing after separation.

Guest Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Its not my favourite time of year Nor mine, at least this year I don't need to go down the early breeding route. My loft is out in the sticks, no light, no water everything taken back and for, no fun rearing early ones going in the morning and evening with a torch to put down food and water. This year it's the end of Feb for me for stock and racers, yipee!!

Most of them just seem to know that its finished breeding time as soon as you take away the nest bowls, they get into a routine, still get the odd egg lying around but not very much.
