Guest chrisss Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 if you could only use one of two trapping systems, for young birds sputnik or a stall trap which one would you use?, i done this as a poll because some guys like to vote but not post,i have no ets thats why i ask
ALF Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 stall trap every time with y/b's if with a manual clock but if ets it should'nt really matter
pjc Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Stall trap every time as you don't upset the young birds by catching them each time. I know ETS will do away with all these in time! Phil
Tony C Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Sputnik for me although I trap through open doors. I find a sputnik beneficial in a few ways, the y'birds can sun themselves in them, look out at the surroundings better in them, they can see pigeons in them which helps getting in the ones in that sod you around and they're handy to get the latecomers in with.
pjc Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Our stall traps are fitted in flights, the birds spend most of the day in there getting the benefit of a sputnik but also below the stalls we have the opening which is the same size as our baskets so we just put the basket in the opening and drive the birds in for training. This way we can basket 100 yb's in a couple of minutes. Phil
Castleview Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 I've used sputniks before and thought they were rather good. Stall traps on the other hand are ideal for someone who's not used to catching pigeons, for example my fiance. If I were racing and had to work then I would use a stall trap so she could clock the bird, but we're planning on getting her used to the birds. If you get the birds used to you enough you can remove the sputnik and go for the fastest clocking ever...open door. The birds, if trained correctly, should never drop on the shed but go straight through the door and into the box. My granddad mastered well, but her put his stock section on the wrong side of his shed and lost valuable time because of them having to land on it to enter the door. He installed it on the east side of his loft when the best place would have been the west (he was a south road flyer)
cemetary Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 I use both and have no problems with them but i use the ETS. But stall trap would be the preffered one for me, so thats my vote.
Merlin Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Stall traps for me all the time,a word of caution,go easy on youngsters, when removing race rubber.

Guest shadow Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 they trap better through sputnicks than they do through stall traps do not hesitate as much
THE PRIEST Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 This year is the first time i have used a sputnik and i was supprised at how easy my young birds trap to it. I have always trapped to the open door but i dont think i will be going back now i have tried the sputnik. michael.

THE FIFER Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 What a brilliant idea, have you copyrighted the idea, if not I am on the drawing board on Monday :) I will change anyway ;D ;D ;D this idea has been on the go for a while now, its good but some like to handle the birds before basketing as you then make sure they are ok,
