pjc Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 sorry, i'll expand on that! I know david doesn't plan to breed, but human nature as it is i'm sure cutiosity will get the better of David at some point and he may let a pair hatch to see the lovely little yellow fluff balls! As soon as this happens I don't think David would want to part with them and then a loft of crosses are formed. Phil
lozza Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 Yes and no if he is going to start thinking about being serious he is obviously going have to look at racing pigeons but Ive had westies in my loft for years and they are worth their weight in gold cant find anything better for rearing and found they are brilliant to have out with ybs for the first time very true rose !!!
Guest ljb107 Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 WHATS A WESTIE :|:|:| West of england tumbler
invalidusername Posted April 26, 2008 Author Report Posted April 26, 2008 Very nice sentiment with the Westie suggestion. Many thanks. But they're not for me I'm afraid. Just been drilling big holes in the side of the shed to make ventilation (putting covers over the top). Pidge didn't mind too much about all the noise of the drilling. However, when he thought I was taking some peanuts away from him (I was actually putting a few more on his perch) - he nearly had my hand off. lol ;D
swilcox Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 Dave Sorry for the late info, Roger Pets in Filton (just down the road) has probaly the best selection of pigeon equipment. If you want a spudnik then you can get them from A E James & Son Barrow Gurnay, pm me before and i will get it placed on my account (its not in my name) that way its cheaper. If you want your welcome to have a small kit of young birds (numbers up to you) from the race team when i pair them back up in June!!! You will not get anything better to start off with. Stuart
pjc Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 Well done Stuart, I knew there must be somewhere local to David! Phil
lozza Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 well done stuart wish i had a pigeon in my kitchen and get an offer like this,i would be ripping his arm off !!!
pjc Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 Pic of a flight we have on the end of the fancy pigeon loft. Its 6'x6' and 3' off the floor with a wire floor and half coverd roof.

Its 6'x6' and 3' off the floor with a wire floor and half coverd roof. Crikey, Phil, that's big! Probably as big as my garden. haha Look really sold though and excellent for the warm weather (I had to stick an electrinc fan through the window as it was so hot yesterday. Pidge was sat in his bath :-) Am still undecided about the caging - still can't feel right about it, but I might see about building an aviary for the side though. More work on the shed over the weekend - with the vents, it's starting to look a bit less like a potting shed. The neighbours are bound to cotton on soon ;-) Dave Sorry for the late info, Roger Pets in Filton (just down the road) has probaly the best selection of pigeon equipment. Stuart (goofy)(goofy) Stuart - many thanks for the supplier details. Having done loads of Google searches I never found those! Will pop along to Roger's Pets after work and see if I can get some stuff. Will contact AE James and hopefully go see some sputniks just to see what's there. As for your bird offer, I'm speechless and will PM you.
pjc Posted April 28, 2008 Report Posted April 28, 2008 David, its only 6'x6' made up of 3'panels! As i said i've got some spare panels here if you wanted to make a 3'x3' flight would give the bird/birds somewhere to go out into during the day while your not there and then you could let them out for a fly while you are there. This way you can keep an eye on the birds when your home. Some people leave the birds out all day but this can attrackt cat etc as well as cause problems with neighbours if the birds are sitting on there roof etc. Phil

I'm being sent a hen in the next day or so which will give pidge some quick company, but am totally grateful to Stuart for his offer - and will see how it goes over the next few weeks. I might then be ready for a few more Will post some pics of the shed when I get a bit more time. Cheers :-)
pjc Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 How is the construction work going David and has he settled with his hen now? Phil
invalidusername Posted May 8, 2008 Author Report Posted May 8, 2008 Pidge and his hen are settling in well together. I collected her a week ago today. She's a bit hesitant with me, but they're now sharing a shelf (mostly). Cooing noises regularly. She was lying down (well, sitting with legs tucked in) whilst pidge was preening her last night. They like splashing about in their bath! Am trying to put aside time to erect the fly-out from the panels Phil gave me. Thought I'd post a few pics for interest: "I'm ignoring her. Stay off my shelf!" "OK then - you can stay on here with me!"
pjc Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 they look happy David, the droppings on the newspaper look nice and firm as well, a good indication he is healthy again. Phil
invalidusername Posted June 1, 2008 Author Report Posted June 1, 2008 Hi. I was going to leave this until tomorrow as I'll have a bit more time, but thought I'd post an update. 'Bluey' is doing really well with his hen, but after nearly a month, I didn't think there were going to be any eggs. However, she sat in her nest bowl towards the end of last week (and around swap over time, I saw ONE EGG :-) There'll be two in there now. Here's Bluey taking his turn on the nest: If all goes well, the pigeon from the kitchen is going to be a dad :-) :-) I'll post more updates as things happen. Thanks in the meantime for the interest people are continuing to show :-)
REDCHEQHEN Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Congratulations David ........ (evil) He looks really well
DOVEScot Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Before: After: Just been reading on this, man you done a job, the effort you put is super, most people would,nt care, you need a O.B.E for real seriously TOP Man ;D What a difference, well done :-/
invalidusername Posted June 1, 2008 Author Report Posted June 1, 2008 Cheers guys/gals. Bluey is glowing. The pic of him on the nest didn't have a flash. The place I was going to get a Sputnik was closed over the weekend, so it's going to have to wait another day or so. Hopefully, 2 becomes 4 :-)
invalidusername Posted June 1, 2008 Author Report Posted June 1, 2008 then 8, then 16, then 32!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't go there, Phil ;D
