OLDYELLOW Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 Just a thought of mine to run a 500 mile yearling challenge you have to select a yearlings ring number for the challenge , theres many one loft races and similar sprint races but heres one for the distance minded fancier and a near level platform as be racing a unknown quantity , so be a bit of fun with a bit of cash to be won so what do you think ? any thoughts ideas welcome
Roland Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 Don't see why not. Jackson was doing over a 1000 miles with them a hundred years ago. Canada have them flying back to back, even three weeks on the trot nearly over 400 miles as young birds. Had a nearly 4 month couple do 469 miles...
Guest asha Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 I think it`s a very good idea, but might be forcing fancier to push something to hard, but beside that, would be better to keep money out the equation because will always causs resentment, over who has final sayso over best result?
walterbmasson Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 OLD YELLOWS will have problems settling yearlings if its a one loft race and what race points were you thinking
Guest asha Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 No Wally(not an insult just shorter version of your name ) oldyeller means just select one out your own loft, andprepare it for a race 500miles or over this year, and then someone ,august time, when all races have been flown, looks at each pigeons result and choses.
Guest Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 Well even though I did not breed out of my distance stock in 2008 I'm up for it. I would suggest Richard the webmaster be the judge. I'm happy to try and get it publicised in the BHW to, if everyone sends me their details. Mine to start is Gb08n53634!
Guest asha Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 No way on earth should richard have a hand on judging,he would`nt have a clue, best ask someone like rose, that`s if see doesn`t compete herself.
OLDYELLOW Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 yes you would select one ( or could be agreed one cock one hen per loft ) entry from your yearlings at beginning of racing to race over 500 miles and open to Pigeon Basic members only otherwise it would be too big a task to have someone Judge it , i have a few people in mind for the Job perhaps someone like M J Burden , there doesnt need to be any money involved but im sure if theres a prize then more may enter ? i think a Minimal amout such as £5 per bird max ( £10 if cock and hen ) just looking for suggestions and to see if enough intrest to continue it im happy to select a hen or both cock and hen pay my £10 in at beginning of season if need to replace due to hawk or losses then any other bird will cost same £5 to replace , once we can agree on a format ectra then we can put a final wording up on site
OLDYELLOW Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 OLD YELLOWS will have problems settling yearlings if its a one loft race and what race points were you thinking not a one loft race its a yearling nom , which will be judged race point can be any over 500 mile , in my instance its 510 mile but its over 500 mile
kirky Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 ya would need to be someone racing, as distance, wind & vel would have to be taken into account, but count me in.
OLDYELLOW Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 ya would need to be someone racing, as distance, wind & vel would have to be taken into account, but count me in. mj burden raced until last year , only recently packed up due to pigeon lung
kirky Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 mj burden raced until last year , only recently packed up due to pigeon lung fine by me, the idea of cock & hen sounds good with just the best of the two vels to be put forward,
OLDYELLOW Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 well shall be call it a 2 bird 500 +mile challenge , then can have 2 birds for £10 and best birds velocity be put forward only ? then if racing only cocks they still have the chance of 2 birds been entered
Guest Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 sounds good but its a pity our program hasnt got a suitable race we have ypres at 482 eastbourne at 456 then we are at falaise just under 600 dave

Guest cloudview Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 well done for the thought oldyellow ,nice to have something to look forward to the only thing that concerns me is that different organisations have their 500 mile race at different times of the programme ,so what would happen if one race was a blow home , and someone race was a stinker with obviosly lower velocites, how could you judge that
OLDYELLOW Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 these are the things i've already took into consideration so with each result wind ectra will have to be taken into consideration as well as route bird flown be it south or north at the end of the day it will be down to a judge to decide or all that entred could vote whatever the format we all would have to agree to make it viable which im sure we can do a bit of fun something to look forward to and can put pictures on site as well
OLDYELLOW Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 well Kirky and i are in it so far any other takers ? 2 in so far , ( can do ours straight away same club ) ;D ;D ;D ;D 3 with Albear
hotrod Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 well i would be out because our yearling race is arras 4 miles short of 500 miles our next distance is 590 miles , although i have sent yearlings to this race ,i would only consider sending one if it was 100% not if it was entered in some challenge, just for the sake of sending
Guest Vic Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 Excellent idea! Old Yellow. I will have go, without doubt! How about all monies to be to be paid by 17th March. '09. and all pigeon rings to be nominated by 1st May '09. Nothing whatsoever to be accepted AFTER these dates. We have time on our side, to consider how the winner is to be judged. Perhaps the highest position from the liberation point, be it a few weeks apart, which maybe involve Fed or Combine postions, might be considered by whichever judge we appoint. But as Vic says, an excellent idea, that will, I'm sure, enhance the popularity of Pigeon Basics. Nod your heads, and my cheque will be in the post tomorow.
OLDYELLOW Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 thats 4 in , im just looking to see if theres a need to have this , but its all in fun and be nice to see a result with all our nom birds on surely ? thank for your support Vic

I'd still stick at Richard, he has no hang ups about what is a good performance and what isn't and he's a bright chap who would be impartial and look at it logically
