Blue Chequer Pied Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 I have been hit this week as well old birds though. Sparrowhawk took one off the house roof as they came down from excercise and into next door's garden. I had to get over the fence and chase it off. A s i went to pick the bird up the bl**dy thing hit it again right in front off me. I tried to get it but it cleared off the blue cock then took off and the hawk appeared hard on its tail and they took off over the neighbours house and I never saw either of them again. Youngsters to wean this weekend and it will be a nightmare trying to get them out. Paul.
Guest j.bamling Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 I got a yb killed the day before yesterday also by female sparrowhawk

Guest Davy Fleming Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 Just caught my 3rd sparrowhawk in 4 weeks but need to report this one and awaiting the guy from the falconry coming to collect it as I have one of the 15 licencees in Scotland to catch them. Guest Davy Fleming Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 Hi Guys, The guy from the falconry ( Field Researcher) has just left taking the hawk with him and he answered one or two questions I asked him. Question 1. where did you take the last one I caught ? Answer. Galloway Hills near Ayrshire Question 2. What happened to it then ? Answer, It went to South Ayrshire and back up into the town for about a week and then I lost it from the transmitter he has in his 4 x 4 . He then told me this is the same bird that you caught 2 weeks ago as it still had the transmitter on it and he recognised it. What concerns me is the fact that they take these birds away from me and gives another fancier the same problem by populating the areas in Ayrshire. Sorry to the lads in Ayrshire but thought you should know whats going on. :( :( :( :( :(
Guest Davy Fleming Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 No offence taken Frank but we need to report this to highlight the situation as much as possible until end of month but as I said after that it's back to you what what
Guest Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 now we need to watch out for the transmitters that could get someone caught out
The Grass Cutter Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 The whole point of the exercise is to record as many trapped sparrowhawks as possible to prove to the RSPB that we have an epidemic of sparrowhawks and their numbers have to be controlled. David fill in the report properly.

Guest Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 davy i dont blame you or the shu yous are trying to do what yous think is right but they are just hoodwinking yous to do there work for them by catching them for them to tag and now anyone catching them stands the chance of going to court for killing a hawk that a pigeon fancier had a hand in tagging and as you say what about the poor fanciers at the loc. they realease them

Guest Davy Fleming Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 The transmitters are about 6 mm in diameter and clipped on to the tail at the very base in the middle and very easy to see and black in colour with a very thin wire approx 4 inches long and a ring on there leg so be careful what you are doing as you know there is a possibility it could be getting followed ( approx £200 quid each transmitter) will keep you up to date lads.
OLDYELLOW Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 be worth selling the transmiters back that you find in the garden :D :D

Novice Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 now we need to watch out for the transmitters that could get someone caught out Frank--I think the purpos of the transmitter is to prove that the captured birds can still live a normal life when relocated. This has to be proven I think to then ask that licences be granted to make trapping and release legal. If fanciers are granted a licence legally then I suppose they could be relocated into any dustbin. I believe all the captured birds have been released in South Ayrshire. But do I understand that this one has returned to Davy Flemming from there. How far is that? Is this a homing Sparrowhawk?
Guest Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 hey most good doo,s cant come home from ayrshire may be we should cross them with a good cock lol
