phillips Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 It really makes me wonder why i bother using telephone rings now i stamp ybs / old birds and they all carry a telephone ring which all cost more money and yet they still never seem to get reported why ?
ALF Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 I used the ETS phone number stickers last year with the y/b's and had 3 or 4 reported after a couple of dodgy tosses early on through them and they were back in the loft in a couple of hours
phillips Posted March 5, 2009 Author Report Posted March 5, 2009 hawks cant use phones ;D ;D ;D ;D true that mate but really when pigeons enter the wrong loft 9 times out of 10 its due to unfit and unhealthy pigeons who reports ?

ALF Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 SHU office is only 400 yds from my loft so easy enough to nick over and find out who belongs to any Scottish strays that come in and get a phone number for the owner...
thunderboult Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 i've never had a scotch stray in here, id say 90% of the strays i get here are irish, normally after talbenny.
Guest Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 They go feral, and join the collective, simple as that. :)

bird man of meath Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 as a new pigeons man never did not know who to call i just feed water and rested then sent on there way. but say there are a lot out there that like the look of ur birds and try to keep them prob look better than the ones they have already. prob think if reported the all would be all wanted back
grizzal Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 when we get one come in we phone the owner to let them know where it is .Rest it afew days and toss it nearer it loft if poss
george Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 reported many usual answer its bred from champions a sure winner would you like it can you liberate it closer to home its sure to return. stopped reporting just feed and get as close to home as possible had many replies from owners as I always attach a note had many class birds in hand over the years just confused and down on their luck soon pull around and sent on their way notes to let owners know its been held a few days before release
T_T Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 Had a pigeon dive into my loft which I reported. I arranged for transport via Pigeon Express. The pigeon was delivered safely after 7 weeks of me caring for it and trying to get it home and I've still not heard from the fancier who's bird it was and it's been a month or so ago since being returned. That's what puts people like myself off from reporting pigeons. I know fanciers are not all the same but and awful lot are.
grizzal Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 not trying to nick jasons thread, but with the way jobs are being lost and money worries do u think alot of fanciers will dread the phone going with the saying [got one of your birds m8] I know most members are sensible, feed, water, rest, and try and get the bird closer to home . but over the years had phone calls saying bird just come in tonight when do u want to send for it. i know some will say if u don,t want it don,t breed it,but these days i think some commonsense should be used for the coming season and try and save members pockets. [ just my thoughts ] or as some have said to me just bin it.
pjc Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 not everybody is prepared to bin birds for others. Sometimes it depends on the owners approach when claiming a bird or receiving a phone call that determins the outcome! Be polite to the finder and its suprising how many will try to help, often people know lorry drivers etc but if anybody gets my back up when i report there birds then they can pay for return. Phil
fancypigeon_88 Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 hi, the only time i ever get um reported is when there dead, my of my best breedin hens was lost ina young bird channel race 2002 an she didnt return tilll 2005 so me thinks some one add been getting her right so the could liberate her so she could return took them a very long time, lol. thanks tho to who ever it was.........
REDROCKET Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 i caught one in the stairwell here at work in worthing wing stamped phoned the number the guy siad it was liberated yesterday in the cornwall area its went 150 the wrong way it should be here in ireland i asked if he wanted to pay to get it brought home 'no' do you want it . i fed and watered the bird for 2 days let it go that afternoon it was treading a hen on site the next day. my point is why stamp its wing in the first place if its not worth the £30 transport fee are some of these guys hoping it gets lost down the road from them.

I can see your point about why do people stamp them but firstly its a rule, although there are still many that don't and secondly the sport has a bad enough name now with the general public, how would they feel if they've got to keep the bird for days/weeks while the owner was traced?
