phillips Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 I've been 2 years in the sport and have flown 2 young bird seasons and 1 old bird season and won:- Club Level 4 x 1sts 3 x 3rd's 2 x 4ths's Fed Level 1 x 1st 1 x 3rd 1 x 5th 1 x 8th Amal Level 1 x fastest Bird same as topping it 1 x 26th out of the YB Nat How I'm scored then? Surely if you have been in the sport for years but don't have as many wins your value you should drop wheras if I have been in for a shorter time but have higher wins than my score should be adjusted higher for what I have achieved with less time. Just being cheeky Joe lol its a good idea in theory but difficult to enforce in practice plus lets me honest you could be like I am flying against decent flyers every week making it hard to clean up. Look at say Skinninggrove Fed for example in the UNC. B&K Simpson are fed winners and top men and ace flyers but they haven't got a high number of points difference like there is in some feds between top man and second cause they are up againt top level flyers. Lets say there was someone equal to that on here and another man was ranked higher than him who flew in a fed down south where he dominated cause the rest of them were rubbish he could in theory be rated lower in your points system where in practice he's not. Plus lets be honest noone winner or not knows everything about pigeons and pigeon racing and we can all learn from each other. Plus there is no right or wrong way a lot of the time in pigeon racing its what works for you. id class you as a champion mate well done ;)
Guest Paulo Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 id class you as a champion mate well done ;) I wouldn't mate cause I'm not the top man in our club runner up to YB averages is as close as I got to winning an average off him. Thanks for the praise though but thats the point I'm making some people on here may win lots. Like Frank Taskers on here and hes won a lot more than I've won but there may be another man whose may not as won much but you can learn from them. Theres a bloke in our club whose a crap flyer and never wins but I learned how to use sand as a floor dressing from him cause I saw he did it and it seemed to do the trick. Theres another bloke I have won more than lately but he used to clean up and I learnt off him that short training chucks are just as good for the birds as flogging down the motorway all the time and cheaper too. I think pigeons is one of those things that no matter how much success you get you never stop learning about. I also think the day you stop learning and listening is the day you get beaten. Knowledge is power. Its like on here theres some class distance flyers who the sprint flyers can learn off but vice versa applies as well!
johnkdownes Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Yes real names not screen names what you got to hide for
blaz Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 in my opinion ask a lot of the older guys and then see what things they agree on and the things that are agreed on i put in to practice and then on occasions pass it on
Roland Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 I remember Berti Mee giving us a talk in - did so a few times, in regards football of course. A very apt point that he made, on more than one occasion, was the 'Left back' Every winger etc. literally ran rings around him. This started at school and local teams, from the age of say 9, he was always played a 'Last Stop' because he was very keen, but to be frank useless, or at best not very good. When 12 - 13 he'd improved to a stage where he got a few games on his own merit. Then of a sudden from 16 he became 'Gifted' and topside took him on. At 21 he was playing in the premier division. Why.... well he had 'Learnt' though not physically capable until say 14 - 15 he'd leant every trick in the book from these classy wingers etc. that incidentally go / went nowhere. Then applied - when able - to put what he had leant to good practice. Likewise the many that still never could play the part.... but learnt to 'Read the Game' and became good / great coaches, management. Likewise with our pigeons. THERE ARE umpteen reasons why a fancier never shines... mostly because of circumstances outside of their control... and then the ones that are more content to just enjoy their sport / hobby / pastime etc. and the odd swallow to them is a summer! Know a great fellow (Dave) that is very friendly with a crack flyer. They grew up together and always had and shared pigeons. One wins nationals, one has the same birds, same knowledge and enjoyment, but try as he may, and Dave’s mate has done everything to help him, they live just 4 miles from each other, Dave after countless years is still not a winner. has a beautiful 'Belgium' looking loft, every thing is sheer class... Same birds as his mucker, very enthusiastic.... But lacks a certain ingredient. Doesn't want it bad enough, yet his mate says that Dave is one of the most knowleable fancier in the country. His knowledge is second to none. U C also, many will see instantly what other will never see in a lifetime!
Roland Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 them tricky winners stood still for a few reasons, one not having the three A's. But, like all sports, their progress stood still because they weren't able / didn't play with BETTER players to improve. Some lacked bottle, could stand the tests etc. etc.
pigeonpete Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 why does everyones opinion or input turn into an argument? and we wonder why the sport is in such decline!! come on boys and girls were only a month away, lets make it a fantastic season win or lose!! i doubt i will win many, but i will still give birds and advise away for free if wanted!
pigeonpete Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 i do think if people had real names, then some people would be more tactful in what they say!!
Guest karl adams Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 on all sites i use my real name i have nothing to hide :)
NW USA Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Joe are you accusing me of calling you a fascist? Go back and read the post. I said censoring ppl's advice "sounds" fascist. If your perception is so twisted that you can't decipher the meaning of a simple sentence perhaps you shouldn't offer advice. My point is simply, all should be afforded the right chip in. Age and experience should not be considered the end all for value of advice. Intelligence, insight and common sense are often more important. Lots of old, experienced ppl. make the same mistakes over and over.
Guest WINGS 04 Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 i now of someone that had 7 first this year how good is he joe
Tony C Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 My opinion is you can learn more by listening to others who’s train of thought differs from those of your own be it novices or old hands.
joe61 Posted March 12, 2009 Author Report Posted March 12, 2009 i now of someone that had 7 first this year how good is he joe he is a very good flyer, or fancier, you just cant grab the concept of this, i just saying sport determines how good you are by how much you win.... any sport, so ours should not be different, but you all get it in your heads that i am having a go at people, read the start of the thread, and you know someone... we could all do or say that. what have you won since starting in the sport.?

Guest Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Joe i just wanted to say as a novice and only been racing a few years one thing i have learnt is theres many pitfalls in this sport/hobby some of these pitfalls not all are shall we say man made some of the advice i received benefited the advisor and not me now i keep my ears open and my mouth shut i think in principle what you suggest isnt a bad idea just how best to work it
Guest Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 My opinion is you can learn more by listening to others who’s train of thought differs from those of your own be it novices or old hands. Couldn't agree more, because it challenges and sometimes brings about change and that's the most difficult aspect of anyones life
joe61 Posted March 12, 2009 Author Report Posted March 12, 2009 now this fancier fly in a club with 9 members and only 4 members sent to the young bird races how good is he now he can only beat what is in front of him. so how good are you if he beats you ?
pigeonpete Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 i now of someone that had 7 first this year how good is he joe he svery good wings!! we dont start racing till april!! lol
NW USA Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Lets go back to the beginning....what would your rating be based on your original formula?
leighton1984 Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 its no good winning club if you are at the bottom of the fed sheet. some flyers will have loads back but do not clock them in.
joe61 Posted March 12, 2009 Author Report Posted March 12, 2009 > ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D he svery good wings!! we dont start racing till april!! lol
NW USA Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Lets go back to the beginning....what would your rating be based on your original formula? Joe, don't be modest. Let me know what how you would rate on your own system.
NW USA Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 That makes it pretty clear as to why the system wouldn't work.
