Hi there my friend is getting made redundant and has been told he has got to work his lue of notice (13 weeeks).

But he has heard that if you go on the box while being made reduntant your employer has to pay you your full wages instead of statatury sick pay,

Does any one now if this is true?

if your off sick you still need a doctors line

but i was told that if made redundant your entitled to take off

1 day per week for the 1st month 2 per week for the second and 3 per week for the last month

to look for a job

thats why a lot of companys just pay you the 3 months notice and let you away

It depends on the circumstances, my wife has had to look into this before and it appears if you go sick after having been given your notice then you are entitled to full pay but doesn't think they can make you redundent while you are signed off sick.

Best way to check is ring ACAS and give them the details.

If he's getting lieu of notice you can't work it,that's the whole idea of lieu. That means he'll get 13 weeks wages when he finishes work and can't claim any benefits for 13 week from the date he finished work because basically he's being paid.He can however start another job during the 13 week and accept payment, all taxable.Sounds about right.I was made redundant in 2002,I don't think theres anything changed.Pop down to his local employment office the'll have all the info.Lindsay

Tell him just to go to his work and get on with it as people are getting made rendundant every day and they have to get on with it

I agree Alf, also if he starts playing his employers up now they are not going to give him much of a reference when he finds a new job!
