globalgirl Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Hi all I haven't been on in a while. I've had quite alot on my plate having just found out recently that I'm going to have a baby. On a sadder note one of my grandads lovely old pigeons sadly died yesterday :'(. It was Chicken Legs. I'm so gutted as he was such a character. However I know my grandad would be proud of how me and my mum have looked after his birds (thanks to alot of help from you guys). Chicken Legs was 19 years old so he had a good long happy life and he is winging his way to that big old pigeon loft in the sky now where my grandad can look after him. Thanks again for all your help guys Nikki xx
grizzal Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 sorry about chicken legs ,but congrat,s about the baby :)
PIGEONJIMI Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 19 years old wow, thats some age, all the more distressing for your Grandad, take comfort in the many memories you must have,on a lighter note good luck with the baby
globalgirl Posted October 29, 2008 Author Report Posted October 29, 2008 Sadly my grandad didn't make it as long as Chicken Legs. He died last December which is how I came to take on his pigeons and subsequently came accross this site whilst trying to find out information on how to look after them the best way I can. There is only 3 left now. One Eye, Drop Wing and Big Blackie. They are all pretty old but Chicken Legs was the oldest I think. He was such a character. He had legs just like a chicken (hence the name) and he always used to make me laugh. I used to clean them out and feed htme for my grandad for the couple of years before he died but I never realised just how lovely they were until I spent alot more time with them. I will miss him bless him but at lease he can keep my grandad company now xx

Guest IB Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 A really heartwarming story. Admittedly with a tinge of sadness but with lots of happiness in there too, especially with the baby coming along. Best wishes now & for the future..
globalgirl Posted October 29, 2008 Author Report Posted October 29, 2008 Thanks guys for all your kind words I am obviously a little worried about the other ones as they are so old and it is so bitterly cold at the moment. I have put plastic sheeting round the traps and then blankets round that (I take it down during the day) Is there anything else I should be doing guys? Thanks again everyone xxx (my baby scan piccs :-) )
