  i think when u are first getting in to pigeons the  ones that come on asking  for free stuff right away  gives the game away  , as we do hv  genuine lass es & lads coming on site but they ask  about  what s need , keeping / feeding  all the general  pigeon stuff  they  need to know  then if members wish to help they will do  ,   jon

 

well their is one or two that come on and ask right away .like wee andy he asked for the lot birds clock nest pans feeders etc. he was a genuine little mite. he also got all he asked from the members on hear .some of them having a 60 plus mile round trip to get the things he asked for . now compare that generosity to any other hobby /sport .the genuine pigeon men women 2nd to none. just cant remember their names

because that is his opinion,this is a site where within reason, you can have your say, its the most liberal site of its type on the web,there are people who will abuse it,as there are in everything in life,we should count ourselves lucky this ring piece got caught before to many people fell for his bs

No far from the most liberal site. There are one or two others moreso, and one great one, was undoubtedly the best once that was really liberal and was great because of it.

Having said that, I would in no way slant this site, because it is pretty consistant and fair, and gets most things right most of the time.

if you have any questions regarding pigeons keeping feeding flying or any other related questions ask away .most of us differ in our answers .or if you are not too sure who's answer to take do what i do and ask jimmy the encyclopedia white (jimmy white)

I sugested on another thread that new starters/youngsters could register themselves on some kind of list.

Maybe once they have registered on this list they could be visited by a current member in there area to confirm the status.

Most of us like to help if we can but none of us want to be taken for fools!

the sites you talk about ,were no doubt great sites for their day, but folks they are history,i am going on [in my view] what i see now on the web,not what was happening many many moons ago 8) 8) try half the stunts that most of us have pulled on this site anywhere else and your converse would be dust [not a boast fact]

most succesful fanciers will have had a mentor, it may be a relative or a friend but somebody help them start on the right foot.

Linking newbies with a local fancier would give any of them a good start.

How many times have we had newbies on here who realy don't know where to start from, where the nearest club is etc etc.

It is expensive enough without spending money on a loft etc to find it then needs a lot of alterations etc to become suitable, much easier and cheaper to try and get it right first time.

I have read all the replies to my first post and am concerned about a few things. Firstly, there was no way that I was tarring all newbies with the same brush. but was pointing out that it only takes one bad apple to spoil it for the rest, and was implying that I hoped that the genuine people on here who have given advice, and offers, don't adopt the attitude of "once bitten, twice shy" which would be a real shame. Secondly I think I should define a "Newbie" as someone who is just starting up, young or old, or someone who has left the sport for what ever reason and wants to come back into it. (as I did 12 months ago)

There is always going to be occasions when even the most knowledgeable of us, hit a brick wall, and require a second head to help us out, and there is no better place than here to seek that help/advice.

I have always looked for the opportunity to help people, be it new starters or old hands, and I suppose because I have been a giver, not a taker all my life, I have left myself open to being gullible, and I think that may apply to a number of us. Thankfully this site has some wonderful detectives, in this particular instance Thunderboult and Chrisss, who were able to spot a conner, and I take my hat of to them.

Just on another point, we often read of people saying "If pigeons are not good enough for me, they are not good enough for anyone else". Yes I agree, in principle, but to a new starter, these pigeons will at least give them the opportunity of learning the rights and wrongs with inexpensive birds, without hurting their pockets and egos. Nothing worse than spending a fortune and losing it through inexperience, one of the quickest ways of leaving the sport before you have started.

I would just like to say that I have had some fantastic offers from real Genuine people on here to get me started again and although I have thanked them all individually (they know who they are without mentioning names) I would just like to say once again a big thank you to all of you. In time I will do the same for any genuine newbie.

I usually get a letter/pm a week asking for pigeons by new starters, funny thing is i never see any new starters. I always follow the same procedure, i ask for there name, address, name of club and a referance name, i.e. a fancier who is already Known to them and can confirm they have joined a club and intend on flying. Funny, i rarely get a reply.

 

I did have pleasure this year in supply a 7 year old with some new birds, so they are still out there.

Well Pete as a Mod, and being diplomatic, the correct answer, but .......... I do think that those who have been proven to deceive should be exposed. That said, in this instance, one only needs to go to the section you mention and the name is highlighted in RED as a blacklisted member............ Any more clues needed?? I don't think so

what i would like to see is his ip address been passed to all of the other sites,and before anyone starts screaming about witchunts/persecution,this person tried to obtain property by deception,thats yours and mine ,and the sites property,and more important, the next poor bugger who wheels up asking for help/birds will more than likely end up with a big fat zero next to his posting when it comes to replies, and will leave this sport before he starts :o :o ,these people must be made aware that if they try it on ,their ip address will be passed on, and they will be banned from every pigeon site [this is a  fancier thing not a site thing]i think site admin have the info they can pass on to their oppo's on the other sites?,

Pity we don't have his true identity, as I would put it in the BHW and RP and inform the Union of his antics. Harsh!!! Maybe, but deservedly so, at least it would be a "lesson to learn" for others who might think of trying it on.

yes and thats the idea mate, once word gets around that if you are caught out you are fubar then they will stop 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)and in this case the ip address is known, so why should some other poor well meaning sod, get screwed by the likes of him ,when guys on this site have the power to stop it
