LnK Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 How do I treat for canker and cocci, and what other deseases or infections are their that I need to prevent and what are the treatments available? Thank you, Lee
b.massey Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 I treat with batryl for 5 days. Making sure the birds dont have access to grits/minerals then I give them multi vits on the 6th day and return the grit/minerals
greenlands Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 For Canker I use Turbosole,for cocci I use Baycox.Lindsay
REDCHEQHEN Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Baytril is a 'last resort' medication for life threatening conditions - there are many medications on the market for canker and cocci look at: http://www.hyperdrug.co.uk/Pigeon-Pharmacy/products/308/ their own brands are good and reasonably priced - also fast delivery Very poor advice b.massey

They get 5 days of the treatment before I pair up. Everyone does there own thing and this is mine so hardly say very poor advice :-/
Guest Davy Fleming Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 to b massey sorry mate but you are a million miles away when you want to treat with baytril for canker. This is a last resort as the guy previously states. It simply has absolutely nothing to do with canker
b.massey Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Never said I use it for canker. I give them it to treat for all sorts. My pigeons finish showing in late January then paired up feb so I treat with this before I pair up. I have had bad cases in the past with cocci and even batryl never sorted it. Had to get vet and he sorted me out. Lost 5 very good birds so I will stick to giving my birds Batryl when I do as I wont take a hit like that again. Sorry if bad advice but I do it and will happily keep doing it
b.massey Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Ooops sorry people.... EMTRYL is what I use... Sorry about that
REDCHEQHEN Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Ooops sorry people.... EMTRYL is what I use... Sorry about that http://www.hyperdrug.co.uk/Easicanker-pack-of-10-sachets/productinfo/EAS10/ Hyperdrug's Easicanker - is the same as Emtryl and is in foil sachets for easy dosing - one sachet to 2 litres of water - treat for 5 days (10 sachets in a pack)
Guest IB Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 What does bayril do for a pigeon Hi there, Baytril is an antibiotic. Not something you can buy over the counter. It is only available from a vet, and then only if he is treating the bird and reckons its needed for the condition he's diagnosed.

Guest IB Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 Or very good friends in the Game birds buisiness Slightly off-topic, but given that game birds are in the human food chain, wondered what other irresponsible behaviour there is in that industry? Perhaps UK needs to follow USA's example and ban its use in food animals?
jimmy white Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 How do I treat for canker and cocci, and what other deseases or infections are their that I need to prevent and what are the treatments available? Thank you, Lee some medications are and associated items for proper sanitation, especially during a desease out break are listed here,,,,,,the most important thing to remember is: DONT MEDICATE UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MEDICATING FOR!!!! cocci,,,, amprol,, [coxoid is one kind] canker...emtryl [spartrix] [ flagyl, another] there are many other deseases or infections pigeons can get,, and many treatments available,, but a stressless , clean , well ventilated loft , with excellent management can lessen the chances of picking up any deseases,, that may result in various different treatments needed
Bluedoo Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 Well said Jimmy! Why treat for for what you may/probably don't have.
