The Navigator Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 I have had four 15 miles tosses and the first race is tomorrow from 50 miles. Would you send them all to the race. Usually the first race is a disaster, but mine are in great nick. I am sure the basket will sort out the weak. I usually take it steady with them, but it seems if you go easy on them they let you down.
fletch Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 i dont think they have had enough work mate but hey if they fit enough and u never know, i would wait mate till they had my work, only my opinnion..
Guest pigeon82 Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 i only had 17 youngsters in my loft i sent them all to first race got them all back i sent 17 to the next race and got 16 i would send them but it all depends if you would have any others left if you did have a disastrous race up2 u but i wud
The Navigator Posted July 24, 2009 Author Report Posted July 24, 2009 I wouldnt personally i want mine to have at least one 30 mile before i put them in next week at approx 68 You know your own birds best though and i dont think mine are ready yet. yours maybe different though Yes I agree, but with the state of BOP down here, id rather take one risk on a saturday rather then during the week. Its all down to the worry of getting hit!
greenlands Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 You've got to look at it weather wise for next weeks racing also are you going to be able to get some more training into them and finally how much further is next weeks race.Say the weathers crap next weekend what are you going to do then, save them for the following week and may be 20/30 mile further and the weather might let you down again.Sometimes you've got to take a chance so take a chance when every things in their favour. Health and weather. JMO. Lindsay C.
taffacre Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 dont think 15 miles is far enough would get a few 30 milers in before risking them,i find that they get pulled about everywhere if they havent had enough training. your shout but if you like them dont put them in till they have had those 30 milers,

Guest Owen Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 I would be worried about the lack of training tosses. But my best pigeons are always those who do a lot of racing as young birds. In any case, if they are healthy and bred from the right stock they should do you credit. On the other hand if they are not either healthy or bred well, you are better of without them.
Guest monkeynuts71 Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 easier said than done in the south west. our club has been decimated by birds of prey. training is a nightmare. we had a meeting this week to decide not start our youngbird season untill the come back races to give people a chance to get there birds ready. 1 member has 9 out of 40 left, another didnt get a bird on the day from 3 miles.its impossible to carry on like this. i doubt our club will still be here in less than 5 years time

If they make this one then I will be happy. remember theres always next year and they are still babies and learning all the time.most of them will not show their true potential untill they are older.
jimbhoy29 Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 ive only had 3 tosses first race tonight only sent 15 out of 45. race is 43 ml
Ronnie Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 check the weather 50 miler is only an hours fly if the weather is good .its not all about the distance its how they handle the basket and cope with the stress. Also where is the fed going to drag them.Personally i would send the lot the main drag would bring them most of the way and if they cope with stress of the basket they will come ok.
Guest IB Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 I've only got 9 ready, the weathers fine tomorrow, no guarantee it will be next week, so they are all away tonight.
