Guest Davy Fleming Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 HI TO ALL, On behalf of the Scottish Homing Union may I take this opportunity to thank all the fanciers who handed stray birds in to there stray delegates for transportation along to the stray centre at the weekends these last 6 weeks. I know some people went to a lot of trouble in trying to get birds back to where they belong but I'm sure they got satisfaction in helping others. Would also like to thank ALL the fanciers who helped me process the birds to all the hours on a Friday night as it would be extremely difficult doing it yourself . Once again I am ever so grateful for your troubles. THANKYOU Yours in sport Davy Fleming S, H. U. Stray Officer.
Guest JPH Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Think stray centers are outdated nowadays and just a money making racket also a source of diseases being spred. Jmo.

Guest Gareth Rankin Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Thinking back the amount of strays that comes through the clubs compared to 10 years ago there is a hell of a difference, back in the 90's remember my club getting 20 on a weekly basis but nowadays my club luckily or unluckily only get 1 or 2 a week. Is it the cost????

The state of some of the strays i hve seen hanging about this year its hard to blame them. :) there i smiled
jonny Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 some of these strays have been scared off or chased by some so called pigeon fanciers until they end up at the loft of a proper fancier who will report them ,by which time they will be in state, nervous and starving . give all strays a chance!

ALF Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 I think the boys at the stray centre do a good job but i had a bad experience with a pigeon i got back from it 4 or 5 yrs ago ( And i'm not for 1 minute saying it happened at the stray centre as the y/b was missing for weeks ) but after that every y/b that i have got in the stray basket never goes back in the loft...

Guest JPH Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 who charges a fiver a bird? my fed is £3 and that includes the £2.30 to the shu still to dear they should be paying for the fanciers time and petrol to get them to them at that price :-/ :-/
Guest Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Have to commend the fanciers that put themselves out to repatriate birds. But personally if my pigeons cant make it home themselves, well i don't want them back. But the probability is high that the first time these birds have a difficult time of it they will return to the place they were rescued from.

In 90% of these instances i would agree with you Vincent but there are occasions such as Wetherby last week were you cannot blame the pigeons for not being good enough to get home, what the problem was i still do not know. Have to admit i don't like getting young birds back in the stray basket and fortunately for what ever reason we have only had approx 5 in the last 10 years.
