mattsmith Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 I have just started keeping pigeons and currently have 4. I feed them 1.2 ounces per bird per day but when i feed them it's as if they haven't eaten for days. I read on the forum somwhere that this was how much to feed them but wanted to double check just incase i'm starving them.

Guest IB Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 Sorry, but is that half an ounce? If it is, you are not feeding enough. Should be minimum 1 to 2 ounces per pigeon, more when they are growing (young birds) rearing or training / racing.
mattsmith Posted June 7, 2009 Author Report Posted June 7, 2009 is it young birds uv got They are 7 months old.

So i should be feeding them about 8 ounces between them at each feed ?

HOMER49 Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 Obviously not enough then! So i should be feeding them about 8 ounces between them at each feed ? Hi Matt If you feed them once a day Give them all they want little at a time after 30mins remove the un eaten corn If you feed twice a day 1/2 ounce in the morning them as above at night Use a good quality mixed corn Ask Billy Frame in Strathaven for some advice Cheers Homer 49
mattsmith Posted June 7, 2009 Author Report Posted June 7, 2009 to be honest i dont know that make of corn but for growing youngbirds i feed an ounce and a half to 2 onces per bird Is that per day or morning and night feeds? Sorry for all the questions just want to get it right!
just ask me Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 Is that per day or morning and night feeds? Sorry for all the questions just want to get it right! ask away mate and if ever u want to ask by pm no problem i would give twice a day and when it comes closer to the racing if u choose u can cut them down a little it will all depend on what your goals are as in wining young bird races or u just really want to get them home to race as yearling both can be achieved of course but the balance can be hard to find most distance fanicers tend not to push there young ones to hard and the sprint boys in most cases do on feeding there are many methods u could have to champion pigeon men with top performances that would disagree on how to feed it really takes time as to what suits u and your birds
