Guest Jargre- Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 Tried them sonic cat deterrants, the £30 a pop ones with body and ridewood and they are about as useful as a woodpecker with rubber lips, got the spikey things as well but never had enough to get them across my entire boundary (lots of yardage) so Whiteknight came up with fishing line across the fencing. Seems a cracking idea but until the weather breaks (its always raining in Wales), what other suggestions do you guys have? I won't kill the cats as much as I want to, nor will I take them away and hide them a million miles up the road as much as I want to, so genuine ideas only please guys as it's like a frikkin haven for the sods where I live and with no husbands to beat up (true) I can't complain to the neighbours as they are all women who swear blind their cats are the only ones who don't go more than 5 yards from their own garden! > >

Guest frank dooman Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 i put my fence up about 3/4 weeks ago after 2 good neighbours warned me about cats clinging to the back of my lofts and i have 2 scotties 1 loves to hate cats and has nailed 2/3 over the years i fell into the trap of thinking i was safe with dogs WRONG!!! it doesnt take long for the cats to know when the dogs are out and unless you leave the poor dogs out in all weather and at nite then it doesnt work ive also got 1 of the good cat repelars that work but the cats just stay out the beam and some cats are deaf so it wont work on them the fence is working great havent seen a cat since go on line there are many to chose from the 1 i got retails at £146 but they start at £99 just get the wire ones for horses and put 2 strands right round the area an extra 100mts only costs about £12 and you just twist it together to extend once they get a dig from it they wont be back in a hurry
Guest Owen Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 Easy man. Get yourself an electric livestock fence. I have had one for years and I never have trouble with cats. The owners are completely unaware of what I have done and the cats remain unharmed. As a bonus I don't get dogs or foxes either. The people next door have 3 out of control Jack Russell Terriers and after they moved in about six or nine mounths ago the dogs came through the fence. There was a sharp little yap from each of them and they went back they way they came. After that they stayed away. Later, the bloke told me that he did not understand why the dogs never came through the fence. " They always broke out where we came from", he said. I showed him the fence. He gave me a funny look but did'nt say anything. The fence I use these days is a mains driven model designed for ponies. Most of the time, these days, it is not even switched on. But it has done the job.
Guest strapper Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 any point where cats jump onto your loft put a load of fresh grease on there..cats hate anything in their paws...place two battens at each end where they are jumping ..as said string fishing line with summut like tin foil on it so for them to see it.
Guest frank dooman Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 the point is cats are doing more damage to most lofts than we know i had a test done and lee came back and told me i must have a prob at the loft as the test showed that the birds were not digesting there food he asked all the ques. cats mice even badgers no i said ive got 2 terriers untill i re watched my cctv back there it was a cat on top of the loft 5-30 am for an hr at every point trying to get in that was only the 1 i could see because of light it was prob going on all nite every nite the birds couldnt rest never mind get the good out of there food so dont be misled because you have dogs they only work when they are out

We bought an electric fence unit but could not work out how to get it past the gate or open it with getting a buzz ourselves. We have now worked it out and will be installing it all shortly
