Guest Owen Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 I agree with pigeonpete. 2 hens and a cock. I am only about 80% on the third one as a cock. Take my word you will get better at sexing as you gain more experience.
rich Posted September 7, 2009 Author Report Posted September 7, 2009 so would i be right in thinking "this" bird is a hen..? how do you guys tell, is it the flatness of hen's head

Dave barrie Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 hey rich, have you tried the penny, it does work, ive been using it for years and ive found it to be pretty accurate, tie string about eight inch to a penny, hold just above birds back towards rump, hold still and penny will start to move head to tail direction for a cock, side to side or circular motion for a hen, it does work , honest.
pjc Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 look like 3 hens but these white Logans etc are very henny type birds so 3rd could be a cock, give em time they'll show you what they are!
vanreets Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 the 3rd is a cock i think but the other two hens jmo

Guest grizzler Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 two hens and a cock for sure :)
hosepipe Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 hi. years ago how i did it was gently pull the birds beak if it struggled and pulled its head left to right we use to say its a cock and if it let ya pull and didnt struggle we said it was a hen . might be rubbish but give it a try . been out of birds a good while , but hope to start back up. cheers steve.
Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 I would say all hens by the looks of the pictures
Guest IB Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 In my opinion the only sure way is to wait till the birds start showing; a young hen will turn, spread her wing butts and sweep her tail away from an old cock giving her any attention; a young cock will sweep toward anything ~ dead or alive
flyingteessider Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 cock hen cock for me im afraid
Guest phillip Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 Hi all . I was shown to turn the bird upside down . Push the rear toe of a foot towards the front toes gently . If the toe goes towards the center , it is a hen . Should it go sideways , it is a Cock . It works for me most of the times .
Tony C Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 Explain to them the offside rule, the ones that cant grasp it are hens

Guest youngzimmy Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 if its a cock no 3 and it lays an egg it is either a miracle or it is a hen
