With a full brick he can get up on it aswell to have a go at her

Geraint Parry Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 when the birds are moulting , get a carboard box cut a hole in one side, place it in the loft, and all the feathers will gather in the box (this is correct i think as I haven't done this myself but have heard of others doing it!)
THE FIFER Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 when the birds are moulting , get a carboard box cut a hole in one side, place it in the loft, and all the feathers will gather in the box (this is correct i think as I haven't done this myself but have heard of others doing it!) i have nestboxes on the floor which i just use for storing, but during the moult they collect all the feathers,

Geraint Parry Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 now if this was April the 1st... i would be thinking mmmmm ? hmmm, why?? ever tried it? give it a go, all the feathers get drawn into the box, thus leaving your loft a little cleaner
oldguy Posted January 29, 2008 Author Report Posted January 29, 2008 hmmm, why?? ever tried it? give it a go, all the feathers get drawn into the box, thus leaving your loft a little cleaner i will be trying the tip of using the box with the hole to catch the feathers during the moult, even if it is one of those tips that sounds like when i got sent to the corner shop for a pint of pigeon milk when i was a kid as it would taste better on my breakfast.......... I actually went and stood in a queue and asked for it

rembrant2coo Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 its not april the 1st kev all the feathers as they say when moulting tend to go in the corners or in a nestbox on the floor so give it try i have 2 nestboxs in my young bird end and its true the feathers go there
bewted Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 or even lean a board against the back of the loft works too !!!!
carlsberg Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 just dont lean a board up in hens section they have a tendency to go behind it and lay
speedbird Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 pair up well before you intend having young this way all the fighting gets out of the way & normally all lay together enableing you to move eggs to foster & all your ybs will be ready within a couple of days
Guest Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 When I am going to a show I put plenty of feed and baths out in the averies for all the birds staying at home so that when the show birds get home tired they can get peace from the others to feed, drink and bathe without having to fight their way through, this could be applied to racing.
DJ Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 keep the tips coming especially u old hands what do u treat for? what corn and supplements do u use? any training tips? debbie
jimmy white Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 training tips, beware of cold east winds in april,, a few trainers in these ,, birds wont last the season [when the wind is in the east , its neither good for man nor beast ],,,,,,,,,a true saying
jimmy white Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 beware of sending a yearling cock driving hard to nest
jimmy white Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 simple well known trick is ,,,when a flight feather is bent,, hold the flight over hot steam [boiling kettle] flight will straighten out in front of your eyes
Wiley Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 simple well known trick is ,,,when a flight feather is bent,, hold the flight over hot steam [boiling kettle] flight will straighten out in front of your eyes funny you mention that jimmy had to do that to 3 cocks this morning. Heres a tip on basketing put widowers in a darkened down basket, as it will keep them calm and relaxed and will stop there race being won in the basket
Tony C Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 When you have y/birds in the nest this time of year dont put freezing cold water in the drinkers, add a bit of hot water to it just to take the chill of. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You cant stop smashed eggs from occurring but if you add a dummy egg to each nest (especially if you have the odd troublesome yearling) you can at least salvage their nesting condition, they'll carry on sitting the dummy and you can give them a baby when they were due to hatch.
jimmy white Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 another tip is ,, make sure your hens are not too fat prior to pairing [difficulty in getting them to lay ]
jimmy white Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 when the birds are feeding youngsters ive found it advantagious [big word for me ;D] to put a spoonfull of babies milk in their water now and again along with some hormoform ,,,[in a galley pot ;D] prooved well for me [calcium in babies milk too]
Guest speckled Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 ;D ;D ya listened that night then jimmy at blackpool, the calcuim lol pmsl :P :P ;D ;D Speck
jimmy white Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 if a bird has broken one of its last six flights , find an exact match , cut the broken flight clean, poke a light sowing needle with super glue down the stump, half way the carefully poke the new flight with super glue on to the top half of the needle ,,,,a very delicate job and needs to be a perfect match
