Pigeons are colour blind, so colour means FA, its the blood that counts, so the way you are all talking, Reds. Red cheqs and mealies would never win anything  ;D ;D ;D

I agree with the second part but I don't agree that they are colour blind :-/

Sorry for misquoting by saying "pigeons are colour blind", perhaps misleading. The point I was trying to make is that birds can see ultraviolet and have at least four types of color sensitive cone cells in their eye make up. Humans have only three types of cone. Therefore birds do not perceive colour in the same way we humans do. The attractor regarding choosing a mate in birds is what they see in the ultraviolet spectrum which is invisible to the human eye. Hence what we may see as beautiful attractive colours do not appear the same to birds and in no way influence their choice of mate. (As in budgerigars, it is not the body colour that attracts a mate, but the cheek patch, which we see as purple, but they see as ultraviolet, likewise in pigeons, the iridescent colours we see on their necks is seen as ultraviolet to them and it is the pattern that is used in choosing a mate). The point I was making is colour does not attract or detract from a pigeons ability to perform better or worse because of it's colour.
