robbiedoo. Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 I've never been one for big teams, I've never had 60 pigeons never mind bred 100 YBs. I've never bred off all the birds in my loft, and wouldn't, I breed off selected pairs only, my quota is strictly 30 rings. 2009 was the first I tried channel racing, with 2 y-o; I've 4 left, 3 flew 500 miles, 4th was hawked at 100 miles, so 10% of my 2007 YBs flew channel as 2 y-o. 2009 was also the first time I lost almost all of the YBs I raced, 3 left out of 24, none of them raced out. They definitely weren't all rubbish, most of that failure must be down to me. I've 12 of my 2008 YBs left. As yearlings, 4 did coast, 1 Ypres. Now 2 y-o, they are hopefully all going across channel 2010, so looking forward to that. good luck to you hope you have a cracking season and get a good one from the channel.
ch pied Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 if you read the thread link below . you will see the corralation to the post's that budgie has put up . Its the 98% rule . this rule did not apply in the 60s 70's & early 80's . WHY , BECAUSE FANCIER'S WHERE TESTING BIRD'S TO THE MAX , this is no longer the practice , as fancier's have adopted the way's of the belgi or cloggi fancier , We do not live on mainland europe as such . its a different climeite to that of the UK . We have locked our bird's up in loft's with little ventailaion + heater's in some case's . http://forum.pigeonbasics.com/m-1167085631/s-

REDROCKET Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 Flying into the Prevailing West Winds into our Area by the time they are 3 you will be lucky to be left with 5 that are any use unless you use the same bottle as Tam the Great. that cant be right ? if you have the usual 98% s**te you would be left with 2 surely :-/
